Cabinets and wood trim
Hi, does anyone know if you can treat the cabinets and other wood in a Monty (Old English or Pledge etc etc) or is it already pre-treated?
DW thins it would look better if we treated it ourselves.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Peter & Terry,
I believe all cabinetry in RV's have what in the industry is know as a (Blow & Go) lacquer finish. Not often done well, but is treated none the less.
I think everyone pretty much uses what you would on the kitchen cupboard at home, some sort of good polish/cleaner.
Right after we got our Montana in 05' I didn't like the roughness at the joints, so I took them down, lightly sanded then to a smooth finish, (which did remove the orig. finish), and then added a little bit of stain where I "over sanded", and put on three coats of a waterborne satin urethane. They look very nice, I don't have to use a polish, and when I dust them,...no snags!
Now, not everyone has that kind of time, but it was something I felt I just had to do, so did. But like I said before, using a good furniture polish should keep your existing finish in good shape. Good luck.
Joy

I agree that the woodwork needs some work and fine sand paper and/or #00 steel wool followed by good finish would make Monty glisten. Good work, Mel.

I worked for a Wood Finishing Company for 10 years and you NEVER put anything on finished wood cabinets, wood work etc. Clean with a mild soap and water only. Varnish and cleaners (Old English, etc.) are not a good match. I have seen the result more than once, and it is not pretty.
If the cabinets are dull looking it is because they used a satin finish, for something with more of a shine, you need a high gloss finish.

I have been using Liquid gold furniture wood products since 2013 once a year my Big Sky is 11 years old and still looks very good it does take some time I just did the wood it tool me almost 5 hrs. But it's only once a year. My wife dust like every other day it's been very dry and dusty in Florida right now. Dusting only takes her maby 30 minutes we have the dark cherry wood.
