Water spots on windows
Just a FYI stainless steel wool size 0000 takes the water spots off the windows. We were in Arizona for 5 months over the winter and the hard water there had left spots all over....I tried the white vinegar and water but did not help. Haven't tried it on the body of the 5th wheel. And no it does not scratch the window, it is very fine.

Sstill sounds scary to use steel wool of any kind of windows. Wouldn't a sharp razor blade work too?
Admittedly, I have never heard of steel wool 0000 (and water?). Is that readily available somewhere?

It is also called "Super Fine" and "Four Aught."
I have used it on my chrome when I had a motorcycle. If it didn't hurt the chrome I see no reason to not try it on a window.

You don't use water.....just the steel wool and like I said it doesn't scratch the window...I have already used it and it didn't scratch. I got the stainless steel wool at a farm supply store in this little town we are staying in....I'm sure Home Depot or Lowes has it.

Do you think it will work on hard plastic headlight covers that are water drop stained?
Steel wool 0000, Super Fine, Four Aught.... cool! Learn something new every day!

Plain old newspaper will polish water spots off windows and windshields.

0000 steel wool shouldn't hurt glass, chrome, steel, etc., but, I might be a little leary about using it on anything plastic with a highly polished finish. It might change the clear, highly polished finish to a dull translucent looking finish.
Just IMHO

Detailers use 0000 steel wool all the time. That's where I got the idea years ago. Works great.

But on plastic?
Your comments are a little ambiguous about the plastic. I think everyone is agreeing that the steel wool 0000 will work great on steel, chrome, glass (very solid surfaces), but can anyone comment for sure about plastic lense covers for headlamps or headlights?
My daughter's car has this problem and we need to fix it since one of her headlights is duller because of it. We'd like to return the lenses back to the clear luster and need a good solution.
Someone mentioned newspaper, but it might not be enough.

You can try some Meguiar's 17 Professional Plastic Cleaner, worked good on my old Corvettes. It is sold at most auto parts stores.

I wouldn't use the wool on plastic. Go to any car parts store and they have stuff for the plastic headlight lenses. Its much like fine rubbing compound.

Art & Margie,
DO NOT use steel wool on plastic! It's surface is too soft! You will cloud up the finish! My sister in law tried using steel wool on her plastic window on a car she had years ago to remove paint splatter, it did remove the paint,....but.... she couldn't see out the window any longer due to the scratches the steel wool left! My advise is don't use it on any kind of plastic product!

I thought that the tint on the windows is on the outside. If so, the steel wool would scratch that. Wouldn't it?

Used Steel wool (0000), Single edge razor blades on glass but have had good luck using BonAmi. I just apply to a damp sponge and rub the windows. Been using it on auto windows for years with no problems. the glass even cleans up easier the next time I wash them. Most markets carry the stuff and it's multi purpose.

Art, Try polishing compound on the plastic lenses. (Not buffing compound). I thought I read it on here the other day about using it. It may have been Mcguires also.
