Took Delivery of Our New 3400RL
Well on Saturday we took delivery of our new 2009 3400RL. We started our own PDI (the DW and I) at 09:00hrs in the morning and we were hooked and ready to go at approximately 14:30hrs (2:30 P.M.)a total of 5 1/2 hours Wow!! Thanks to the help of this club and the great PDI lists!!
We had a lot of attention from our salesman, the tech, another tech etc. while we were going through the detailed list. No major issues other than a scratch on the Corian counter edge, small crack at the stairway entrance in the wall paper, one spot where they dropped some latex glue on the carpet near the entertainment area. Some of the exterior decals had spider cracks in them and will be replaced, plus some additional small items that were noted before hooking up towing and then cutting the check for paid in full.
One thing that I learned: This new Montana 2009 3400RL built in May of 2008 only has 6000 lb axles and 16 inch 8 bolt wheels with E rated tires; this was disappointing because I noticed the competitors advertise 7000 lb axles and G rated tires. Also the axle system does not employ shock absorbers which takes that continual bounce out of the coach when travelling over uneven road surfaces at high speeds and there is a bounce to the unit when tavelling the 60 to 65 miles per hour ( we have pulled this unit over 400 miles on Saturaday and Sunday to get home the long route).
Overall the experience went well; the Dealer inclusive of it's General Manager was very cooperative and colabrative. He was very interested in this Club. We will have a chance now to go over it again in detail and include digital photos of concern plus all warranty issues. We will use it this summer then take it in in the fall and have all warranty issues repaired and ready for that venture to the south for winter. Sorry for the lengthy discussion. Ellis

Congratulations!! We hope you get as much enjoyment out of your rig as we have ours. We've put many, many miles on our 3400rl with no major problems and we still look forward to every trip we take. Happy camping, Bill & Stacy

That's weird! Our 2008 3400RL was built in Nov. 0f 2007 and came with 7000 lb. axles. We had to put our own U.S. made G rated tires on ourself's
I would question the axle rating if I were you.
I just notice your from Canada,the axle rating might be a Canadian thing.

Someone from Canada pointed that out last week on a post. It had to due with the brakes rather than the axle I believe they said. I am sure they we be along to fill in the details.

Ellis -
Good luck with the new 3400 and we hope you have a lot of great times with it. You got a really nice floor plan and with all of the upgrades over the last five years, I am sure you will be very pleased. It is a very liveable coach.

Did my research on the axles tonight and I do have 7000# axles; and as a Canadian with a Canadian sticker they will only rate the axle system as 6000# because the braking area of the brakes does not meet CSA (Canadian Standards Association). My car hauler has 7000# axles with wider brake drums and 7 leaf on the springs versus 6 leafs on the Montana.
Anyway did some more inspection by going over the unit and am very happy with the quality of the Montana. Will have to do some cauking around the fittings and pipes as the expanding foam was missed in a lot of places under the belly of the unit.
Thanks to all who helped and this is a great place to get that needed help and experience. Ellis

Congratulation on the new unit, in regard to shocks on that unit, the Mor-Ryde does not have shocks and per the specifications I have seen shocks are detrimental to the Mor-Ryde. If you had a bounce while towing you had either chucking or bounce which is best addressed by a new pin box system. We use the 5th Airborne, there are other pinbox systems out there that also control the chucking situation.
Enjoy, we have fulltimed for 3 years in a 3400 and it does quite well.

Ellis;
We actually lived in Calgary for 15 years so it will be fun to re visit that area after not going back for 24 years. Andy
