The great truck debate

We had transmission trouble with our 2000 Ford F350 PSD, but yours is a standard so no issues there. It's always nice to hang on to the old along with the new if it's been a good friend. I kept our 1998 Expedition after buying a new one, for no particular reason other than I just always liked it. Today, my daughter still drives it with almost 200K miles on it. It's not always trouble free, but it's always got here home and costs her very little to keep.

In just a short time, with the way the economy has been going, no matter which way you choose, you'll probably be able to pick up a real nice truck with just a song and a dance.

Well, Gramps, the Dodge is an awesome truck. I dearly love mine. But,,,,, if the old Ford is doing a good job for you, why spend the money? Unless, of course, you just want that new truck.

Bob, I've been driving Ford trucks since 1992. Well, I was until I bought this Dodge in 2007. No rust. None. Nada. But I've seen rusty vehicles of all brands on the road. Those of you who know Bob know he's just getting in a zinger. Right, Bob?

Bob, your and Steve's trucks are both beautiful! Nice choice of color and brand.

I really like the 2009 Ram 1/2 ton with the sloped front. I wonder if that will carry into the bigger trucks.

For what it's worth, we have the GMC Sierra K3500 4X4 (one ton) with the Duramax, Allison, and SINGLE rear wheels. It is an "everyday" driver going to work with me right now. It runs great, is VERY comfy (LOVE those heated seats), and pulls the Monty 3400 like it wasn't even back there. Just got to try it out in snow last week, here in the NW. 12 inches in an unplowed parking lot and it just "bulled" its way through (no trailer behind, though.) Truck with hitch in the bed weighs in at 7300 pounds empty (no cargo.) On the freeway empty I get 22 MPG. To work I'm getting 17, with the Monty I get between 11 and 12 MPG at 60 MPH. We looked at all three brands, and just liked the GMC the best. Of course, the dealer's quote was that the Chevy/GMC are pretty much the same, but at GMC they actually "tighten all the bolts"....ah, internal "friendly" competition.
As everyone says, it is YOUR choice. Our GMC/Monty are our retirement rigs (6 months and counting.)

Love that Duramax/Allison, thats awesome fuel mileage. I have training wheels on my D/A and don't get that good of mileage. But I LOVE my Truck. But the 5er I pull is a little heavier than the 3400. GBY....
