Revolting Development
There is nothing we can do about the weather except move to another spot on this earth. Since I really do love it here in the NW I think I will stay for awhile. Hovever, we were planning on leaving home on the 27th Dec. to do our yearly migration towards sunshine. Last weekend it started getting cold. I mean cold. For here this time of year maybe a good frost or 27 at night. We have had morning temps single digit. Highs 20. Now comes the snow. 6 - 7 inches just today in about 4 hours. The 10 day forcast is no temps above 32 and snow showers every 2-3 days. The truck is a good snow machine but can I tow 14,000 lbs safely on snow and ice? At least we do not go hungry or cold. We may miss a few days at good old Fountain of Youth before Q, but I am sure we can be there by the 17th.
A Merry (white) Xmas and a Happy New Year to all!!

Dick,
Don't feel bad. It is 32 degrees at 5pm here in Pahrump,NV and our truck is covered with snow. We had snow Monday, snow today and tonite and more in a few days. Highs will be high 30-low 40 all week. Hopefully this means the weather will be really nice for Q

You'll just have to buy lots of tire chains, lol.
Hope it gets much better before have to head South. Dawn & I left the North, Nov 1st. (sold the house in Oct)
Spent Nov in Yuma, too hot. Now a Meridian RV Park in Apache Junction. Little cool 69 F today, but not bad.
Hope we run into you sometime.

Snow on the ground for over 3 weeks, okkk, not a lot, but, it has not melted.
Last night 3 inches.
Thursday night to Friday night, 8 to 12 forecast, with the blessed extra of freezing rain and sleet, possibly, the heavy kind that takes down trees and takes out power.
Not sure if we will ever get dug out.
rlwhit, IF, they plow your roads, as they do our gravel roads, we have been able to get Big Butt and Tana out to the paved roads. Go slow and stay in the middle of the road, ours are slopped from the middle down to each side. Start sliding, oooops.
Worst we had was trying to hook up and we were on ice, black top drive way was covered with ice. Did you know that rugs will fly from under the duel tires when trying to use them as traction. Sorta like pigs flying, dang can they fly high!! at least 8 foot off the ground!
What has worked for us in the past, timing wise, storms on Monday, let them clear the roads on Tuesday and allow the salt and wet and slop to dry a bit, leave Wednesday. That said, if it starts snowing on Wednesday again, you are now back to Friday departure.
Are we having fun yet???

You might need to get 2 Montana's and leave one in the south.

Dick, just use a little "differential power" when it starts sliding. Actually I don't envy you, or anyone else for that matter. I ran into some snow and slush last summer on my way to Yellowstone. When I started sliding and losing traction, I slowed waaaaayyyyy down. People behind me wern't too happy, but I was feeling a lot safer. I'm sure you will continue to watch the weather for an ideal opening, then pedal like mad until you get far enough south to get out of the snow. Good luck and be safe.....

OK, We left Coalinga CA at 9:00am, CHP escorting over the I-5 Grapevine, so we decided to go through Bakersfield on Rt 58 then down 395 to I-15 and then the 210 to I-10. Destination was Desert Hot Springs. Well halfway on 68 it started to snow. as we turned on to 395 there was 2-3 inches on the side of the road thanks to a snow plow. Had a semi in front of me. About 4 miles up the road was a car overturned on the left side. The truck c=slowed down to 45. 2 more miles on the right was a semi WAY off the road could only guess he slid off there. The truck in front slowed to 35. Back as we turned on to 395 I was in T/H mode and 4 wheel drive high. Drove that way for 32 miles when we cam to a stand still. After about an hour we moved one mile and were at a point we could turn left. now there was about 4-5 inches of snow on the road. We found that I-15was closed, as was the Grapevine, and Rt14. We drove into Hesperia, CA and had to drive another 6 miles where we pulled into an ELKs Lodge with some RV sites. The Lodge grounds were covered with 9" of snow.
To answer your question. Yes you can pull the Monty with the D/M on Snow. As Phil said S L O W and careful.

Sunday we got 12-18 inches of snow here along Lake Superior and the Temps dropped to minus 10 with a wind chill of minus 28. Plans are to pull out for the RGV on the 29th or 30th depending on when the son and his family leave. Hopefully the weather will calm down and we won't get much more snow and the roads will be clear. Sure looking forward to the warm weather and NO Snow!!!

Dick and Toni,
I'm sorry to hear you may get snowed in yet again! Just remember you have a second home here in Bakersfield. It may not be a Fountain of Youth but you are always welcome. I will guarantee you a snow free place to park! Can't promise much more than that but at least you wouldn't have to deal with the white stuff!
We also extend the invitation to anyone traveling through Bakersfield. We will either have our driveway to park in or on the road in front of our house. So if you need or simply want to stop over in our part of the world you are most welcome.

Hi Bob! That very Elks Club you pull in to I just joined last October.
We live about 3 miles from there.
I would offer you a place to park in the driveway which has 30A service but right now there's about 2ft. of snow piled up,I need to move our Monty next week and I hope that snow will be gone.
If there's anyway I can help you just give me a call. I'll PM my telephone number.
Jack

We do have our winter problems here in South Central Florida. The sun is brutal one needs a good pair of sun glasses. The humidity has been high for this time of the year. 80 degrees and high humidity is un bearable. It makes it uncomfortable to sit outside the Montana in shorts, T shirt and scandals sipping a cold beverage. We will do our best to tolerate it.

Thanks alot Rich.
One of problems will be the 3.8 miles to the main road. This far out in the county this is the last road that gets plowed if ever.
Enjoy your sun.

All I can say is, I am not envious at all!
We are also in for some cold with the new arctic blast on the way. Today, Friday and Saturday will be in the 70'2 to possible 80 on Saturday. Then on Sunday and Monday, lows below 30. Oh well, that's Texas.
Be very careful if you drive on the slippery stuff. I have also heard and read that it is not safe to use the exhaust brake on slippery surfaces. I would assume that applies to the tow command package as well. Just be careful. Do some research. Using an exhaust brake on a slippery surface can lock up the drive wheels.

Dick, sorry to hear that you are snowed in. We live in Silverdale Wa and are in the same situation. We planned to leave on Thursday Dec 11 for Palm Springs. All loaded up and ready to go. Plugged in the pig tail into the truck and burned up all the wire bundle from the plug to the batteries on the Monty. Had a Mobile rv service come and replace all wiring from the plug to the battery. What a job, thank goodness for the extended warranty service. Now we were all ready to leave again to beat the snow last Monday, pushed the switch to bring in the slides and the kitchen slide would not come in. Looked under the Monty and there was a puddle of hydraulic fluid. Looks like when the wiring bundle burned up, the charge wire was sitting on the top of the hydraulic line and burned a hole in it. We over looked that when the rv service guy was here. So now another call to the Mobile rv guy, have to drop the under carriage and replace the hole line. He is suppose to be here today, but you guest it,ITS SNOWING. Looks like we won't be heading south until after Xmas or maybe the 1st. Looking forward to getting out of here for the Qsite Gathering.

OK Rich! And you said you went down to Florida to work. You are havingway too much fun for working; drinking and relaxing in the sun. Even here in Oregon we have had 10 to 18 degree weather with ice and snow this past week. More snow for this weekend (2 to 3 inches). This rare in Eugene. Soak up the sun and enjoy your winter. Yes, I am envious.

Disney is not hiring anyone so I will have to tough it out. Having been a cast member last year Helen is working at Disney every week..53 hours next week. I drive the bus when at home and Helen works when here so it all evens out. It is all Florida money. Your time will come.
