Trade In question
Has the fact that you have previously installed a 5th wheel hitch in your truck bed hurt you at trade in time?
Or when you remove the hitch do you just install a galvanized flat bolt through the holes and tighten them down?
I would like to know what your experiences in this area have been?

I knew that when I got a new truck, I wanted a new hitch. So the dealer or maybe whoever he sold the truck to got a free well used hitch. If I had removed the hitch, I would have filled the holes with washers and bolts as you indicated.

Did not make a bit of difference. Took the hitch out and did nothing for the holes.. The truck was on the lot for 10 days.

Part of my deal was the dealer took hitch out of trade in and put in new truck.

The two times I traded in a truck they didn't even look at it. I couldn't believe it.... all they seem to care about are the 'spec' - year, model, trim level, miles, etc. I think anymore it's all just a numbers game.

I've haven't traded one in yet, but I would think the drain hole inprovement mod would be worth something?

They know what the auction price is for that vehicle and that is all you will get. Same when I traded my 2005 Montana in on the 2007. They did not even look at it.

When I was truck shopping ther was one on the lot with a 5th wheel hitch and the big fuel tank in the back of the truck. The saleman said he had more inquires on the truck because it was equiped with the extras for towing than the trucks which were plain jane on the lot. I thought that was interesting.

Found on my last three 'trades' that the buyer put a hitch in almost before they left the dealership -- just saved them some work/money. (last one wasn't real happy that mine hid 'pucks' and not rails but I saw him a couple of days later and he had a hitch installed using what I left in the truck!). SO, no, I don't think it hurt.

I agree with others as it's just a numbers game today.

Bob, I've never been told it hurt the tradein value but I'd sure think it would to some degree. They have to fill or cover the holes somehow and that will cost them some amount of money.
