3 Axel Montana; Holey Molley!!!!!
Our friend Ken Taylor, who has moved on to a SOB, sent me this information on friends of his, Gibby and Betty King; Gibby is a certified welder and master mechanic. He added a Dexter 3rd Axel. He moved the other two 7" foreward, added hangers and now has a one of a kind 16,000 monster Montana. (Just upset I didn't do it myself..)
He has a generator and a 6 hp. outboard motor in the aluminum boxes he built on the back of the Monte. He has a collapsible boat under the Monte in a frame Gibby built.
The rig is pulled by a '06 Dodge Dually.
Ken, we miss you, and wish you well with your new rig. You know where Branson is.

We have been fulltiming for almost 2 years (11/28) now and we had never weighed our rig. Plus we did not like the way it porpoised on rough roads so this summer we weighed it and found we were between 1500 and 2000 pounds overweight. We could have probably done away with 500 pounds but 2000, no way. We considered lots of options. I was thinking motorhome but our rig is paid for and we would lose too much money, plus we couldn't find any we really liked the floorplan or had the amount of room we have inside. We looked for a 3 axle trailer but the only one we found was King of the Road and the company went out of business this spring and my husband did not want to go that route. We found some toy haulers but that is not what we wanted anyway so based on his mechanical experience and knowledge he decided to put the axle under his self. It pulls so much better and we have another set of brakes so we think it was a good decision. Our biggest problem was getting stuff shipped in, our fenders only weighed 35 lbs but because they were 112 inches long they had to come truck freight and freight was within 25.00 of the price of the fenders.

Ozz,
Did her put the third axle on the 10" I-beam frame or did he reinforce the frame also?

Betty, you can jump in here with answers to Virgil's questions.
Bingo, I will be bicycling around the island, insuring that the bartenders and waitresses are not neglected, my tool boxes will surely end up with dust on the covers, I'll switch my magnetic signs to the Wind toys ones, and become a beachcomber.
My Plasma cutter, and welder will be 1,000 miles away.

That was a good Mod now he has the added axle for brakes and extra support for the weight. With our Cambridge (Heavy) wish we had the 3rd axle. Should have been put there by Keystone. We hope to go with full independent suspension by Mor/Ryde in the future. We want have no axles to deal with. With the 12 inch frame we want have a problem with weight. Great post Ozz, thanks.... GBY....

Betty - nice job on the axles - that is too cool. I thought Ozz photoshopped it for a second.
Congratulations to Ken on his MH life! It looks beautiful!
Ozz - one up that third axle install and make the first and third axles steering axles!!

Remember I am just DW but he moved the two existing axles each forward 7 inches and put new axle in the back. He ordered the exact same tires and wheels and put on trailer. He added one additional equalizer between the middle and back axle.

Don't say JUST, you seem to know exactly what went on with the mod.
Thanks, Ozz
