We are in North Ridgeville, Ohio about 30 miles SW of Cleveland, Ohio as we speak my download speed is 604 kbps and upload speed is 130 kbps,,using Chicago speakeasy speedtest..On internetfrog.com we are 511 kbps download speed. That is with the KCP-650 EVDO card inserted in the KR-1 router..not to shabby.

Glad to see that your system is working for you, Rich. We're certainly glad that we are using it. Hopefully I can still say that after we've traveled in the southwest.

Cingular has Laptop connect. If your phone is blue tooth and data capable you do not need an expensive air card. Use a $30.00 bluetooth adapter for your laptop and connect to your phone wireless. Downside is it ties up the phone. And as far as I know have not tried it yet is with the bluetooth connection I believe you can have more than 1 connection. And get ready for Cingulars customer service to know knothing about this. The website has info on this. I have used this before and it is quite fast. But then I have dial up.

I am looking at getting the Hughes Satellite dish. For $59.95 you can get 700Kbs download speeds from anywhere you can catch the satellite. Is anyone using this setup?

I have cingular as my personal cell phone and you are correct about the laptop connect..However verizon is way ahead of the pack right now. Cingular service is limited. Customer service in Cingular or Verizon know next to nothing about aircards.. I used Booster- antenna.com as suggested on this forum and they do know about air cards from all the providers. To check your speed go to www.internetfrog.com and look at your download/upload speed...
The Hugues dish is the way to go and the price 59.95 is the same after the initial expense for the equipment. The speed is nearly the same WHEN we are in a national broadband acess area and Verizon is expanding rapidly and other will follow.I only got a 1 year contract with Verizon..we will se who is best at thhe end of the year..or maybe the Hugues Dish????

My newly installed "hot spot " is working just fine, verizon kpc-650 pc card and KR-1 router note that the KR-1 router DOES NOT accept the new express cards.. Most of the "phone stores" have no clue but Booster-antenne.com does.We are seeing steady speeds in the 500 range with burst of 850 to 900. If you have the KR-1 router you need to have the latest firmwar version 1.06..mine came with 1.02 and we could not get the encryption to work, This is the support for the KR-1 routerhttp://support.dlink.com/default.asp?orig=1..This will replace our home DSL line and will go with us on the road... Also have the Wilson Dual-band Trucker Antenna # 301101 www.wilsonelectronics.com.. Will hang thos on the rear ladder of the camper..when needed...

I just hooked up the cingular setup. Useing laptop connect and tethering to my phone this is my first post on the new system. As far as speed I think it is pretty fast.... but then I have had dial up out in the country. Nothing to compare it to.
If anyone wants it I have the phone number at Cingular that can actually answer your questions for Laptop Connect. It is in the truck and right now it is about 30 degrees and I am not ready to go get it.

Cingular offers the Sierra Wireless Air card 860 and if we were staying here at the house we would have got it since we already have Cingular service. The issues is, right now, that Verizon has broadband access available in far more markets than any other carrier. I am sure they will all catch up in time. broadband speeds are in the 400 to 600 kbps range.

I have the Laptop connect PH# 800-331-0500. I am pleased with it. And seems reasonably fast. And so far have been able to use it anywhere I have phone signal. I am in Ft Smith Ark. right now pulling a engine on a D8N Cat. We are building another Walmart off Kelly Rd.

Both Cingular and verizon as well as the other ones will work anywhere you have a cell phone signal. The issues is speed (broad band access) as I related speeds of 400 to 6000 kbps..Verizon has the most broad band markets right now..We only took a 1 year contract and we will see if anyone catches up.

In checking with Booster-antenna.com, they are now recommending the Audiovox 5750 aircard and the Lynksys EVDO Router. And they say they will configure everything before shipment. Does anyone have this configuration? They claim it is the most up-to-date. BTW this is for Verizon. Card is $100. and router is $249, but $20 less if ordered together.....

I just talked to Verizon rep. She told me that with my phone, (Motorola razr v3c)all I need is a USB cable that will connect with my phone and download a software program to add to my computer (MAC or PC). No card needed. See WWW.vzam.net. Oh, I do have to pay $59.95 a month for the unlimited service which will be dependent on what service is available in the area.
