tailgate
Just when you think mankind has hope something like this happens . While offshore last two weeks someone decided they needed the tailgate from my 2006 F350 more than I did . I won't replace it with a OEM ($750.00) so I am looking for a lockable v gate. The only one I found so far was from Husky for $412.00. Any advise???

Gary, I gotta believe your insurance company would cover that? Where was it parked?

It happens all of the time as they are an easy body part that can be easily lifted off of the truck. I didn't realize how easy it is until hubby had me helping me take off the original tailgate and adding the flow through tailgate that our son bought us for Christmas.
You should be able to claim against your insurance policy for a replacement tailgate if you have coverage.

I know they are very easy to remove, I just never thought it was something that would get stolen. Makes sense though, I guess, it only takes a few seconds and if they cost that much they probably sell easily too. I'm always amazed that things like this happen though, geez!

Garin1,
Sorry to hear about your gate theft.
I run the Custom Flow tailgate during the summer months and the factory gate during the winter. It just goes to show that nothing is safe, what can one do?

It happens all the time here in So.CA. Our neighborhood has seen this happen 3 times this year, they netted 7 gates in a 3 day period and most were full size Fords. I found if you use a adjustable hose clamp to secure the tailgate, put it on the hinge side with the side opening. It makes it harder to remove, those locking handle are the best way to be able to sleep at night.

I have a friend in Fla. that had his bumper and class 3 hitch stolen off his Dodge pickup on night at the movies. They did leave the bolts laying on the ground.

I run a cable and pad lock around my Superglide hitch to the tie downs in the bed of the truck. I am sure it wont be long until someone is going to be missing a 5th wheel hitch from the bed of their truck. Just a bunch of jerks out there willing to steal anything they can get their hands on. =(

There would be no thiefs if there were no buyers for those stolen items.
So who is to blame.....

Don't buy a plastic one. Get a metal one that locks. Neighbor came out one morning to go to work and someone had stolen his from his S 10. Lock's JUST KEEP THE HONEST ONES HONEST. Be sure to buy one with a lock and use a hose clamp on it.
