First Hitch Purchase
My wife and I are in the process of ordering our first Montana, a 3400RL. We will be living in ito for about a year while we build our next house (we are downsizing). We may make some short weekend trips the first year-nothing far or long. I currently have a 99 Ford F250 SD CC LWB with the 7.3 Diesel that is rated to tow 13,500 the way it is equipped. My plan is to try to get by with this truck for a year or two and then upgrade to a heavier truck. Thanks to all the great advice we have gleaned from this site, we know pretty well how we intend to outfit the trailer. I would love some advice on hitches. I know there are a lot of choices out there, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One question to ask for the future would be on your next truck. Will you have a short bed or long bed. If a short bed get a slider hitch so when you do get a new truck you can just transfer it to the new truck. I would also look at the best quality you can afford. There are lots of hitches and you'll get a lot of advice from the folks here.

I have the Reese 16K hitch and like it. Whatever brand you buy get one that pivot front to rear AND side to side. It will make hitching and unhitching much easier.

The nice thing about hitches with the longitudal axis is that if you happen to go into a curve a little too fast, the trailer wheels on one side will be off the ground before you realize it. With a single pivot, the truck helps keep all the wheels on the ground. That is the main reason the big trucks only have a single pivot.

I'm a Reese guy, manual slide, but if I bought a crew cab I would difinitely go with the super glide, based on everything I've read here. It's up to you though, what are you going to be driving long term, you should buy that hitch that works with your TV.

Bob,
I just noticed your map you've been every where except OK? Not that you've missed a whole lot (excuse me OK people) but is just looks kind of strange.

Mac: We've been through OK. but not with the camper. New Jersey is also one we've not been to with the camper. Been in both places many times though. We have to spend at least one night in a place before we add it.
