OK, it happened to me!
We're currently at home and using the camper in the drive way. When sitting in the front living room we keep hearing a "thump" "thump" "thump" sound coming from the front, or under the floor, or somewhere.
A few days have gone by and every time I step outside to hear the noise from there, it never happens. I'm frustrated now.
So, today I sat on the porch and just watched. I had a theory. And sure enough, I was right. It's birds! They are landing on the King Pin box and pecking at the mirror across the front. When I looked close at the mirror, it's covered with bird slobbers (looks like scratch marks, but it's not scratched) AND spots of blood! It's really a nasty mess!
Well, at least I know where the "thumping" noise is coming from. I taped a temporary cover over the mirror so birds can't see themselves any more.
I never though I had a problem like THIS? Well, we'll be on the road again in 2 days. In light of all the problems of the world, this is extremely trivial.
Just though I'd share!

We were at a site near a lake so lots of animals. We kept hearing a rat-a-tat-tat in early morning. Thought it was birds, but couldn't track it down. Later we saw a woodpecker, i think that was fighting with itself in the pickup mirror!! Peck peck peck. Pretty funny unless it is happening at 5:30 am!!!!

We had a feisty cardinal doing battle with itself in our mirror on our pickup at Jordan Lake State Park near Raleigh last spring. He scratched the surface of the mirror. We had to put bags over the mirrors to stop the damage. Goofy birds.

Well that “mirror” is worthless anyway. I’ll cover mine next winter when I go out again. LOL

Male cardinals have been fighting that other “pesky male” in our mirrors AND -from time to time - the windows are more reflective, and that pesky male in the reflection has to be dealt with! We first witnessed the battle in our Alpenlite years ago. It had reflective windows.

We've had song sparrows build a nest in our pin box the last two years. We remember we forgot to cover it when we see the nest, but if they've already laid eggs we leave them alone. This year a Mourning Dove beat them to it.
Wonder why birds sing all the time? Two weeks of incubation, two weeks of feeding them and they're gone!

I have a salt Water Fish tank and there is one fish that's a bully. Whever I add a new fish he goes after it. I put a mirror on the side of the tank and the next few days he will sit there and beat himself up. I can then remove it and he forgets about his new roomate.

We once had a dog that was in the bedroom barking and then would come into the living room and look all around acting kind of confused. Then would run back into the bedroom again and start barking only to return to the living room and start the process over again. Finally I went to the bedroom to watch him and he was barking at the full length mirror that was there then run to the l/r to try and find that other dog that was on the other side of what he apparently thought was a window.
