Heading north from Missouri
Hello fellow campers. Recently retired and we are thinking about a trip up to Minnesota next Aug or Sept. Just wondered if anybody had any input on good rv parks near Hy. 61. We have been looking for parks with longer sites to fit a 38' and truck with electric hookup, 30 or 50 amp. Any and all input would be helpful. Thanks and Happy New Year to all !! Deb & Bill

Not to give a plug, but I uses (a LOT) the 'campgrounds.rvlife.com' web site. It lists the hookups, the amenities like full hookups, wifi, etc Also has a link to the rv park website.

Penmarallter - Two Harbors Grand Maris, Grand Maris Campground - Grand Maris, Grand Portage Lodge/Casino; all handled our 41' last fall. If sail is fun, Grand Maris has a schooner ride. Town is walking distance from CG. There are 15 waterfalls along that stretch and some good walking.

The Lake Superior North Shore from Duluth all the way north to Grand Portage on Hwy 61 is fabulous. MN state parks are great but very, very busy. Get reservations in the early Spring or sooner to get ahead of the crowd. Not all state parks will be able to handle your size rig. There are also plenty of city RV facilities like the mentioned Silver Bay if the better state parks don't fit your schedule. All RV campgrounds have at least 30 amps and almost all have 50. Not sure about Duluth itself for RV's, but that is a great tourist city (make sure you get early to Canal Park for a scheduled ore carrier going through the ship canal into or out of the harbor. You can almost touch them. I once lived in Silver Bay overlooking Lake Superior all the way to Wisconsin's Apostle Islands, another great place to visit. Have a great time and eat lots of Lake Herring, Chinook Salmon and fish boil.

We camped at a rv park right on the water by the lift bridge. Forget the name tho. 8-15 backins that were long enough for me, and I think some smaller sites right on the water. Boats docked all around.
Only problem was there was a big rain before we got there and I think a day or 2 before we got there they maybe had a foot of water covering our camp area! No problem tho, I think the site was gravel..???
