Microwave Range Outside Vent Cover Leaks When It Rains
I have a 2019 Montana 3121RL which we purchased new. This problem has been an ongoing problem since we purchased the unit. What is happening is the Microwave vent leaks water inside the kitchen stove area each time it rains. I have checked the seal around the vent and tested with a water hose with a lite and heavy water flow. I have also reported this issue to our dealer multiple times and they cannot figure it out.
As a side note; the 5er has topper covers on each slide so I do not believe water is getting by the covers.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

I would remove the microwave. Then test again.

I have thought about that. However, a lot of work.
I was hoping my dealer would take that initiative.
I'm finding their service department does half a** work. Too many trips back to fix what they didn't do the first, second times.
I no longer visit them.
Your suggestion may be the next step.
Thanks for your suggestion.

The leak could be somewhere else and not the microwave vent at all. Have you checked the roofs caulking above the vent especially at the roof/wall meeting point? Just stabbing in the dark here.

I had to look up pics of your model to see where the vent cover was. I have a 2019 384br, pretty much identical living rm/kitchen set up but I have no outside vent at all. It looks like there's no way to get to the vent from inside to close it which I wouldn't like.
I had a Windjammer travel trailer and water would come in the kitchen stove hood vent if I didn't close it. It made no sense since it seemed it would have to be raining upwards for water to get in, but it did.

we have same issue on our 3813MS with slide covers also. the culprit for us was the vent cover. we placed tape across the top until we can effect a reseal of the cover and that has stopped the water issue for now. Now if we can figure out how to stop the minor water issue with the bedroom cable slide. it is a function of wind direction during heavy rain events and how level the rig is. even a slight tilt results in a small amount of water creeping along the cable and dripping down the back of the slide facia inside in the bathroom.

Did you ever figure out why it was leaking. We have 2022 3121 and only leaks when it is raining hard. Have had it to dealers and still leaks. Thanks

Does your vent have a protective flap over the opening - when microwave is blowing out it opens and drops shut when not. Mine has a little clip that rotates and locks it closed which I leave shut all the time as we don't use the exhaust much. Maybe during a hard rain the wind blows the flap up and lets water in?????

hello i have a 2020 3931 fb with toppers over the slides. i was getting water over the stove by the vent also. my son owns a rv roofing company in Michigan. when i was there last year i had him find the leak. it was not at the vent where i thought it was. on top of the slide on the outside edge there is a "seam" that is covered with a very thin piece of looks like Eterna bond. the screws under this Eterna bond had worked loose and penetrated the Eterna bond and would leak every time it rained. he and i cleaned this seam very good and he used a commercial roofing membrane over this edge, never has leaked again. maybe you have the same problem, worth looking at for sure.

Had the same leak. Used a piece of light sheet metal to make a short extension for the flat. No more leak.

We have a 2021 3761fl with the same problem. We have a small window under the microwave and that’s where it seems to be coming from, at least for us. I’ve recently siliconed it, and haven’t seen a leak since. It would only leak when it stormed, and we haven’t had a hard rain since so I’ll keep an eye on it.

My unit does not have the window behind the sink.
For the first 3 years we owned the rig - the little black clips were holding the vent flap closed - but I did not know they were there to use. We still used the exhaust fan and I don't think we noticed it was or was not working correctly...and then one day I was shootin' at some food...just kidding - I was washing the rig and discovered the black tabs. I decided to leave them open. The vent flaps a lot in wind and makes noise - but we have not had any leaks.
For those of you with the window behind the sink - have you checked that back wall under the sink to look for water damage on the sidewall? My first suspect would be the window. As someone stated above - silicone the top of the frame and around the sides a bit - then see if the leak continues.

We had that problem when the rig was new. Noticed on our initial walk through that water was on the counter and stove after CW "washed" it with a pressure washer and forced water up through the vent. It has only happened once in a rain storm when I didn't lock down the flap and the wind and rain was blowing in just the right direction to force water into the vent. I keep it closed now unless we need to run the vent fan when cooking, which is very rare.

Your's doesn't have the twist tabs to hold it shut?
I didn't know they made them without the tabs.

It does not. We have 2022 Montana Legacy. Would make sense but it stays open all the time. My Husband temporarily put a 3” wide piece of tape to extend the profile of the cover until we replace it with different cover that closes.

I’m going to, hopefully with success as I am going to do this alone, remove my microwave and see exactly where it’s leaking from. I have resealed the vent from outside, still leaks inside.

I removed my microwave during heavy rain, and the vent does leak. Haven’t been able to figure out exactly where but I think the vent cover on the outside needs to be removed (I am replacing mine with new) and extra sealant will be added to the inside with a fresh sealant on the outside.
