When we called Rippling River on 19 Sept 22 to book a campsite, we were given site #10 because of the length of our 41 ft 5th wheel with swivel wheel trailer. We have since replaced our unit for a shorter 35 ft 5th wheel with no swivel wheel and are willing to move to a shorter site on the outside of the loop if you want to switch us with another FHU. Just let us know.
And having a senior moment; did we already pay for the rally?
Respectfully yours,
Laura & Jerry Thorsell

Hi Laura and Jerry,
Thanks for the update, hope you are enjoying your new rig!
No need to move you but will check with the campground to make sure no one else is in a too short site. Yes, we all paid upon registering.

Depending on how much time you are allowing for your trip, there are a few options to consider. The quickest way to the U.P. is via U.S.131 north to Cadillac then east on Hwy 55 thru Lake City on on east to Houghton Lake and I75. Houghton Lake has RV parks available with Houghton Lake Travel Camp really convenient. For the most scenic and entertaining route consider taking U.S. 31 the entire way to Mackinaw City. There are many towns/cities of interest along the way. The Silver Lake sand dunes west of Shelby are really nice with multiple camping options. You will want to visit the Traverse City area for sure. It allows access to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as well as the entire Leelanau Peninsula. Grand Traverse and Suttons Bays add to the experience. Another route is U.S. 131, either way you will pass thru Petoskey, a favorite of ours. If a casino visit is on your radar, Mt. Pleasant is a good option and best reached via U.S. 127 north from Lansing. Soaring Eagle Casino is a popular destination and offers free RV parking with no hookups or full hookups across the street at Hideaway RV Park. All roads lead to Mackinaw City and the Mackinaw Bridge. There are many camping options in the area but be sure to spend time there with lots to see and do. A trip by ferry over to Mackinac Island is HIGHLY recommended. AND NOW ON TO THE U.P. The most direct and quickest way to Marquette is via U S. 2 west to hwy 77, north to hwy 28 and on west. The drive along the Lake Michigan coast is nice. Another route is via I75 north up to Sault Ste. Marie if the Soo Locks (and another casino) are of interest. Traveling west from there allows for a visit to Whitefish Point where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank and then on to the BEAUTIFUL Tahquamenon Falls. Either route will lead you to Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, a worthwhile stop! Then it's on west along the Lake Superior shoreline to the rally. Hope this helps, more questions are welcome.

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide several informative options. This will be our first trip to the UP and your post is extremely helpful.

Ron and DiAnn thank you for all your work putting this Rally together. We are anxious to attend our first Great Lakes Rally. Not knowing if there is a set agenda - our question is a boat trip planned to see the Pictured Rocks or is this something we should do prior to the Rally?
Thanks.

we are registered with Rippling River Resort, site 85. It is electric only, should and all hookups site open up, we would be interensted in moving, 38 ft.
Is there anything else we need to do to really be registered? We are so excited about this opportunity. Saw Lake Michigan last year for the first time. We "Desert Rats" love to see water in great quantities.

As you make plans for your journey to or from the U.P. and are interested in a possible boat trip out to the Pictured Rocks in Munising, it is not a planned event for the rally. Their 2023 schedule of tours is posted on their website with current cost of $42 per person for the 2 hour trip. If you are registered with the campground you are registered for the rally, no other action required. We are in contact with the campground on a regular basis and will do our best to get everyone in an electric only site into a full hookup site if possible.

Rally Itinerary
We want to make reservations for the boat tour at Pictured Rocks.
But not sure which day to do because it might conflict with something at the rally. Any thoughts?

The rally schedule is a work in progress, will get back to you. That said, would be interested in knowing how many others would be interested in going as a group. It is about a 45 minute trip from the RV Park so we would need to allow at least a half day. All things are possible.

We’d be interested in going to Picture Rocks. Also would be interested in a fishing charter.

Good morning, we don’t arrive until the 22nd, but would also be interested in the boat tour, just depends on the day.
