Topsail Anyone?
We will be headed for Santa Rosa Beach east of Destin Florida arriving May 20th. Will spend the week there. Any Moc'ers going to be in the area. We have site 143 at Topsail, and looking forward to some time on the beach. This will make it our 3rd trip to Topsail.

We will be just a few miles down the beach and a couple of weeks ahead of you. We will be arriving at St. Andrews State Park near Panama City on May 8, and will be leaving there on May 17. St. Andrews and Ft. Pickens were our favorite spots to 'camp' until Ft. Pickens was wiped out by Ivan. We have never stayed at Topsail. We should probably put that on our list.

Topsail has come up a number of times over the years. We visited it for a look, but have not stayed there. It is a Florida State Park, but unlike any other state park I have seen. It used to be a commerial resort park, but was taken over by the state as a State Park, it retains the resort park appearnce and amenities. I presume the state took it over to protect the sand dunes that are there. We saw it in pre Ivan days, not sure if it has been damaged since, but it is an attractive park in a highly developed area (Wal-Mart across the street) If you like the "resort park" kind of atmosphere, you will probably like it, but don't expect an unspoiled wilderness type of enviroment.

John, you must be thinking of Henderson Beach "Across from Wal-Mart".
Topsail is the ole Gregory E Moore RV resort - still nothing across the street from it. We were there 1 week after Ivan and the only damage was a few of the trees had to be removed that were leaning precarously over and there were some power line issues, but when we went back last year everything was fine. Yes the Florda state parks does run the park and a tad pricy compared to other state parks but worth every penney as far as I am concerned.

Topsail is on the top of our list of places to try out for camping. We have heard nothing but wonderful things about Topsail. I have been told to make reservations ahead of time as they fill up quickly.

Yes it is very popular. We made our reservations back in October for this coming May and we still didn't get the site we wanted but there were plenty of other goods ones to choose from. A person might get lucky with a cancellation, but that is iffy at best. From June till school starts it is pretty rough getting in. We use to go down every year in October but we kept having to dodge hurricanes so we decided May to be the better month.
