Entry Door Lock
The entry door lock on our unit is becoming problematic and before it fails I want to replace it. Trekwood has what appears to be the exact replacement unit for $148. Amazon has similar replacements in the $30 - $40 price range. Curious what others have done. Is the Trekwood part really worth the increased cost?
Thanks

Problematic how? Ours gets so it is hard to open the handle - you have to push the door in a little and then open the handle. This can be solved by lubricating the latch thingy that slides into the lock plate.
I have also had the lock fail once when the screws became loose that hold it together fell out. This allowed the plunger thing to disconnect from the handle on the inside of the lock. Lucked out and daughter was able to crawl in the rear window which for some reason had left unlocked. One other time I caught it before it failed. Both cases this was fixed just by tightening the screws.
I have pulled the rig (actually 2 rigs) 125,000 miles and used it 3 months a year for the last 15 years. So mine has lasted a long time.

Your lock probably came from WESCO FASTEC.
Check here for a replacement which is much much cheaper than Trekwood.

Have you considered the remote door locks?

If the assembly is acting up, replace it. Becky got herself locked in about four years ago when the inside handle broke off. She managed to use her keys to get to the slide bolt to get the door open. We managed to find a new one the next day and replaced it. We found a Trimark lock assembly that was a direct replacement and fit perfectly. I think this is the one we have: https://www.trimarkcorp.com/en/zPlat...&categoryid=12

Everything has been tightened and lubed but the problem is excessive play in the hinge mechanism. DW was unable to open the door and exit the unit yesterday morning...I was able to open from the exterior. I don't want to face the same situation in the event of an emergency. Thanks for all of the replies and replacement link.
Safe travels!

If you are sure the problem is excessive hinge play, how does changing the handle address that? Sounds like the hinges need fixing.

We have a 2018 3731FL that the door lock gave us troubles from the start. I bought two electronic locks at the rally in 2019 and love them and have had no issues. Just keep good batteries in them. I do keep a key to the locks on my vehicle key ring just in case.

My door latch became hard to operate and it was hard to close the door without slamming it. I pulled the whole lock assembly out, took it apart, cleaned it up with Brakleen and then lubed it with Disk brake caliper synthetic grease. Problem solved. A little white lithium grease on the latch and striker plate also helps. Sybthetic brake grease was the lube of choice because it stays soft at cold temps and does not melt and flow at high temps.

We recently installed a Latch IT. It works great. Have had no problems. We love it.
Easy to install. Haven't had a problem with the loose screws, but after hearing the horror stories, i will check them on a regular basis.
