Although we always travel with the shades up, I have just finished repairing my third fallen shade. To be clear, Montana has used at least 3 different types of shades - the pleated day/night shades with strings, the MCD shades and the current Elkhart manufacturer (similar to MCD). I am referring to the newer shades being used in current version Montana and Montana Legacy models. What I find each time is that the screw comes out of the clip that attaches to the aluminum extrusion. It loosens and spreads far enough for the shade to fall out.
In the effort to help others with similar issues, I finally found the easy way to reattach them. First, remove the valance. There are either 4 or 5 screws holding the valance onto the wall. Two screws at the bottom of the vertical valance hidden in the fabric at the bottom. Depending on the number of clips at the top will determine the number of screws holding the top of the valance. The screws will be through the outside of the clips into the valance. You will want a 6” #2 square drive (got mine from Amazon) bit for your drill. For new owners, save yourself some steps and keep a #2 square drive screw driver inside your unit and in your basement tool box. Now, once you have the 4 or 5 screws removed, you can remove the valance. Now, before stepping around, locate the screw and potential rollers that have fallen on the floor. Now that you have all the pieces, push in on the clips, remove the assembly and slide the tension roller back in the end. Now, the shade and screens will have a tension roller in each side and will slide onto the clips. The clips will have one screw holding each clip onto the extrusion (aluminum ribbed plate). Be sure and roll the shade and screen up and make sure they extend and retract properly. May want to consider going up one screw size. Snap the extrusion back into the clips, by inserting into your side of the clip first and then push up. Make sure your shades work before replacing the valance. Enjoy.
