New truck, so need a new hitch. Recommendations?
I’ve been pulling my 2009 Montana 3150 with a 2008 Chevy 2500 HD short bed for 11 years. I never put myself in a position where I make radical turns so I’ve never felt the need for a slider.
I am taking delivery tomorrow on a new Chevy 2500HD short bed with the puck system. I’m trying to decide between the B & W Companion and the Curt 20.
Both have a 20K towing capacity. The dry weight on my trailer is just under 12,000.
Any I over doing it?
Is one brand just as good as the other. The Curt is a couple of hundred dollars less?
Since I have the same trailer with no intention of trading it in is there any reason I need to consider a slider after not needing one for a decade?

I like the B&W because that is what I have like most people. They are both great hitches. For a couple hundred dollars I think I would buy the Curt.

We've always had a Pullrite and while we try not to get in positions that require tight turns on uneven ground we have once or twice and it's nice not to worry about it.

I have had both B & W and Curt and found the Curt was just as good for my use. The B & W was a great hitch but traded fivers and needed more capacity. I bought the Curt due to price. etrailer had a Q24 non-slider with a slightly scratched base and I bought it for $111.00 (yes one hundred eleven dollars) delivered. I was going to buy the Q24 anyway so a little flat black paint touch-up and all was good.

5th Wheel hitches.
I have owned a variety of 5th wheel hitches. I ordered a B&W in April, because of the price, and I though I needed a slider hitch because of a short bed, however, the 2021 GMC Sierra SLT bed is 9 inches longer, than older models. I just couldn't wait any longer, since I have had Trailer Savers, I ordered the TS air ride on 16 June the TS arrived on 18 June. Happy Rv'er.
I prefer the B&W's and the Trailer Saver's. I believe the TS is the best for my use.
Good Luck on your choice.
Happy Trails.

I have a 2020 Ram 3500 cc short bed SRW with the factory puck system , presently using AUH but with all the warranty issues and looking to change hitches. What slider would work with my set up and works automatically. My RV weighs
11k empty and 14k loaded .

I think either are good hitches. I have a Curt Q24 designed specifically for installation in a puck system in my long bed. Recommend the hitch be easy to adjust up and down to achieve 7" clearance between the tuck bed top and fifth wheel cab. Also, since you are comfortable with a short bed and no slider hitch then no reason to purchase a slider hitch. When I had a short bed truck I had a slider hitch since I was more comfortable with that function to mitigate the risk of truck cab damage.

I have always had a PullRite slider. Never have to worry about it. Slides automatically if and when needed.

I've used the same B&W since 2008 and two 5ers and two trucks over 75K miles. The first truck had the turnover base in a short bed, the current is the same head unit on a puck base and in a long bed. Nary a bed side or cab clearance problem even with a 90 plus degree back in turn to our driveway. The only problem I've had was a stripped U-bolt on the turn over base - and B&W overnighted a pair of replacements at no charge.
Never heard of any problems with a Curt but have no personal experience with the brand. I 'assume' you have seen the Andersen situation.

This is just my personal opinion. Buy the hitch that fits your needs. When I say that, I mean several things. First, does your hitch stay in the truck or do you have to get to a clean bed. If the hitch stays in the bed, you have a lot more choices. If it stays in the bed and you have a short bed, you can go fixed, manual slider or auto slider. Your budget will help determine which works best for you. I will say, no one ever used a fixed hitch in a short bed and said I want to hit my cab - I just don’t turn that sharp. With all of the manufacturers out there, you have lots of good choices. I will say, for me, I got away from the Pullrite 2600 (similar to the Anderson) because I didn’t want to put myself in a warranty issue with Lippert if I had frame flex on my new Montana. Again, these are my personal opinions, not facts.
