I never mentioned that we still don’t make reservations on the road until late afternoon.

We have a private camp site in GA for the winter so that is no problem. We left NY Oct 21 for our annual trek down. Made reservations at our usual three cg's about two weeks in advance with no issues but all three were packed when we got there with snowbirds so it's good we made reservations. We are currently at the Charleston SC county park for 2 weeks. That took some manipulating of dates to find one site available for the whole two weeks. But this place is always packed this time of year.
Last spring when we went North we had some troubles but at the time some states had closed cg's completely. We had to spend one night at a Cracker Barrel in PA, but they were happy to have us as they were only doing take out at the time.
One thing we have seen is that much has changed from last spring to this fall. CG's are doing a very efficient job with contactless check in and most amenities open with covid protocols in place. Of course the pools are all closed.

We have been on the road this time for about 19 months. We usually plan several weeks ahead and have not run into any significant issues except for one lost reservation
But we called to confirm so we found out in time to make other plans. We have visited 26 states. Now at Jelly stone rv park in Fredricsburg Texas. We are in this area, two different parks, for three months.

We have been on the road this time for about 19 months. No significant problems with finding places to stay other than on lost reservation. We (actually She) plans well Head. We have covered 25 states.

We recently completed a 2-1/2 month cross country trip moving for Seattle area to our home in Central Florida. Travelled thru WA, ID, MT, WY, SD, IA, KS, NE, MO, IL, KY, TN, NC, GA AND finally FL.
We had an awesome trip as first timers in a travel trailer. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
We mostly stayed at KOA’s with a few private RV parks thrown in and a state park or two as well. That was our first experience with no sewer hookup. We learned there was no need to conserve and we built our experience and confidence in this new adventure.
The main issue we encountered was when we got to a place we liked it was sometimes difficult to add nights or we had to move to another site within that park, which was a bit of a pain, but what can you do?
Steve

It is one thing to travel and find campsites to stay at with vacancies. It is another to go to vacation destinations and get right in. One example is going to Grizzly rv park at Yellowstone without reservations unless there is snow on the ground. Another is any Canadian state parks without having made reservations within two minutes in the reservation window once per year.

It's exploded locally here as well.
Last year, on non-holiday weekends, we could pretty much roll into the state parks on any given weekend, and find several areas with campsites side-by-side (we typically have three families that camp together).
This year, however, on ANY given weekend, those same camping areas were 90% full at a minimum. We were there 3 weeks before Memorial day, and there was not ONE open campsite. That's unheard of...

We got back Monday from 4.5 months on the road, from AZ to PA, across the north & back down to our winter spot. Pretty much full circle, excluding the southeast, and mostly on the fly. I reserved ahead of time for our 1 month stay near Philly, but that was pretty much it. Only issue we had was in LA, where parks were just reopening & military famcamps are closed until 2021. Since we were visiting family, we sucked it up & stayed at a park near Huntington Beach. Otherwise, a great summer!

We spent a month on BC last year. All in Provential Parks. We did have reservations but always tried to get I. By 3 pm. Any later and you were out of luck
But we loved those parks. Most were on lakes and beautiful locations.
