New TV! Another Ford.
Well, a little back story...
We full time for work. Wherever we are needed, is where home is. Almost always in Texas.
This time it was a short move from Brownwood to Ozona. Loaded up and hit the road mid morning on Friday to try and avoid the heat of the day.
My 08 F350 was having a hard time. Despite all the upgrades and maintenance we have poured into it this year, it ran 230 oil and coolant and 220s transmission the whole way there. Ran across the Cat Scale in Sonora and grossed 25,880lbs! Our 3750FL is a LOT heavier than I expected.
Arrived with my wrist hurting from the gusty winds area on I-10 but otherwise unscathed. Time for a new truck.
Saturday morning was a trip to the local ford dealer to check out a few. Did the deal on a 2020 F350 DRW. A lower end XLT compared to my current King Ranch, but loaded with options. We pick it up on Saturday.
The new 6.7 with 10spd is unbelievable! So much power and drives like a small SUV.
Picture of our current set up as I didn’t take a picture of the new TV yet.

Congrats on the new TV! The step in HP and torque will feel great!
A couple years ago I moved up from a 2000 Ford F250 (pulling a lighter 5er) to my 2012 RAM. I had always enjoyed the Ford and had no complaints. Got the 3500 RAM and a heavier trailer. The change in the towing experience is undeniable. I guess you don't know what you don't know. You're gonna love the difference. Enjoy.

The new truck will be night and day different. Towing has come a long way since 08. The truck won't even seem liker it is working towing that rig.

Just bought (last year)a 2019 F350 Super Duty diesel. The XLT package with the appearance group has all the bells and whistles you could ask for, amd then some. The power is incredible, and tows my 2955RL like it’s not even back there. Congrats on the new truck.

Well, picked it up today after a few extras were added. Drives like a dream and even managed 21mpg on the way home for its first 100 miles.
Should make move days just that little less stressful. Old and new together.

Jme,
Is your new truck 4x4? What does the door jam sticker state for max payload?
Thanks

I had an 08 KR. It’s like a model T compared to the new trucks any of them.

Payload is 5835lbs I believe. I’ll double check when I get back to the truck as it’ll differ from fords documentation based on the options we added. Ford brochure says 6530lbs.
GCVW is 40,000lbs in this combination
Max fifth wheel tow rating is 31,300lbs
Crew cab 4x4.

And just think, a 31.3K Fifth Wheel tow rating, yet the typical 20% pin would put at over 6K exceeding the payload. Tell me these numbers aren't anything but advertising hype.

Well, close to it. It all depends on options.
The ford factory info is 6530lbs payload in that exact configuration of truck. 20% of 31.3k is 6260lbs.
I’ll check the door tag in just a minute but I think with all the extras, my payload is 5835lbs
It used to be that 5th wheel and gooseneck ratings were different. These days they are the same from what I have seen.

What is the axle rating? Then check the load rating of the tires and there is the payload. Take the GVWR and deduct the payload number from that and that is how much the truck weighs.
It includes full of fuel and all fluids plus a 150 pound driver. It also includes all options.
Some old guys say you can't overload a DRW truck LOL

I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone, just pointing out some of these crazy towing numbers coming out of the Big Three that are just about impossible to use in the real world.

Oh, no I understood you. The numbers are getting steadily higher.
Our newer F150 has a tow rating that’s right there, if not more than our 7.3 F-350. It’s madness.
I love this truck and it’s very capable, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about grossing 40k lbs with it.
The payload sticker in the door is 5496lbs to be exact.

To know for sure, you would have to weigh the truck then subtract that from the gvwr on the door jamb sticker. The payload number and the actual allowed weight one can carry often disagree.
