12V Ceiling Fan
Hey Folks, Our new MHC came with a 12V ceiling fan. I have noticed that the fan will stop, as if turned off, after running for a period of time. To turn it back on all I got to do is switch the wall switch off and back on.
Do these 12V fans have some sort of timer or thermostat built into them? Anybody else experience this issue with their 12V ceiling fan?
Anybody know the manufacturer of these 12V ceiling fans?

I'm talking about the ceiling fan … not a vent fan.

Are you sure the ceiling fan is 12Volt. Ours is 110volt. That said ours runs until turned off.

No issues so far, well, except for the ticking sound that it makes as it rotates. And yes, confirmation, they are 12V now in the newer units.

Could be the switch. Wiggle the switch while fan is on and see if the fan goes on and off. I have the toggle switch as well as most i presume and i have that problem now. I just need to buy a new one and install it.

Are you sure yours is a 12 volt fan? Mine is definitely 120 volt AC. I just went out and killed power from the electric pole and tried the fan. Nothing. I then flipped on the inverter and still, nothing. Plugged back into the power pole, and working again. The battery in my 5er is good.
I also checked to see if there was label on the fan with a name or manufacturer. Nope, nothing. I then checked my original paperwork to see if there was any documentation on the fan. Nope, nothing.
Unless yours has a built in timer, I know of no reason why it should stop running after a few minutes unless there is a built in safety switch to shut the fan off if the voltage drops too low from the battery, as an attempt to save battery power. But, I really don't know. So you might check to see how strong your battery is. Just kill power from the electric pole and flip on any house light. See how quickly it dims down. If it dims down quick, you are having problems with your batter. I'm just guessing here, assuming yours really is a 12 volt DC fan.

For 2020 High Country, the 42" fans are 120 volts, and the 36" fans are 12 volts.

Yes, I am ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT certain that the ceiling fan IS 12VDC. It is my understanding, from a Keystone Rep. that the 2020 Montana High Country 295RL, 10th Anniversary Edition came with a 12VDC ceiling fan!

"Yes, I am ABSOLUTELY, ... certain"
Just curious, does yous have a remote control switch, or wall type switch only? I'm scratching my head big time on this one. I love mysteries.
Don't worry about my persistent questioning. I'm a software tester, and the nature of the job is to question everything! Even when it works right.

It's a wall mounted control "box" located within the control panel.

Sounds like a battery killer to me.. maybe it has a timer or voltage shutoff? Just a thought

On our '14 HC, the fan 'crapped out' within a month. It was a 120VAC fan, replaced by a very much better 5 blade, 3 speed 56" unit with a decent lamp from Lowe's that actually moves air instead ob beating it in a useless circle of thrashing, rattling blades by a squeaky motor. Keystone never bothered reimbursing me but for less then $65, didn't waste my time complaining too hard.

I too had the ticking sound upon further investigation I was missing a screw on one of the fan blades where they connect to the housing.
Then I remembered One day after returning home from a trip I found a screw on the floor did not know where it came from put it up guess where it came from that's right the fan blade. Installed to screw in no more ticking sound.

Thanks for some of the answers folks. I'm thinking that the control panel is not only a on/off switch, reversing switch, and fan speed switch it is an electronic rheostat for the speed function. I kinda think the rheostat may get warm enough to shut down the fan.
This is just a guess as the fan control panel does get warm. Warm to the touch but not hot such as fire hazard hot. I'll keep an eye on it and swap it out if I feel like there may be a fire hazard.
BTW, anybody know who the manufacturer of the ceiling fan is? I have found several 12VDC fans on the net including etrailer. Some of the fans appear to be the same as the one in my FW but I am finding only distributors rather than the manufacturer.

Does it run for the same amount of time before it shuts off?
I think you are right in your guess of there being a timer in the switch. You reset the timer after each run time to start over. Maybe it is to save the battery if you are away.

Problem with the timer theory is that it's not the same length of time when it shuts off. Also, it does it on shore power ... I have not tried it on battery power alone.

Update on 12vdc ceiling fan issue
Well, we setup the MHC at about 1pm today. It's in the mid 80's with no trees at our campground site. So, A/C's get turned on along with the 12vdc ceiling fan about 1:15pm. At 9pm the ceiling fan is still running without issue. No idea what may have changed but the fan seems to be ok.
