Stupid question
Tonight is the 1st time in the rig. Cold here. We have the heat pump on in the rear and heat on in the bedroom. The heat is blowing from the vents above in the rear. I thought the heat blew from the vents in the floor. What are the floor vents for?

Heat from the heat pump will come from the ceiling vents. Heat from the furnace will come from the floor vents.

Cold, How cold? Unless the furnace is running, no heat will be going to the underbelly to keep the tanks warm.

Heat pump is only good to about 40 degrees. After that it’s a wash and they will start to freeze.
Run furnace in AUTO mode only.

First there is no stupid questions here. Second good advice in previous posts. If below freezing use furnace.

Going to about 29 degrees for the next few nights. When I set the thermostat on furnace only nothing is coming out of the floor vents. But; last night only went down to about 42 degrees. Set the control at furnace and heat pump and started getting warm air from above. Am I doing something wrong? Or will the furnace come on at certain degrees?

My bedroom t-stat will only work the front ac, not the furnace. I have to set furnace with rear t-stat. I would turn front t-stat off, the set rear t-stat. first set fan to auto, then turn to furnace and set temp high enough for furnace to come on. You should now hear furnace to com on and feel warm air from floor registers.

Why do we only have one heat pump? Why not two?

What I have learned is the one heat pump plus the fireplace keeps the temperature just right. Once it gets to 40 I switch to furnace and fireplace.
I would think 2 heat pumps would be overkill.

Does the furnace and hot water heater run on propane only, or can they operate on electric?

HW heater should run on either. Check your switch box by the door to see if option is there.

Fill in your sig so we know what year and model you have.
Your furnace will run on propane (only) along with 12volt battery power.
There is a heating system called Cheap Heat that can be added to run off of 120 volt electric power.
Most newer units will have a propane/electric fired water heater. All have a little black switch behind the outside removable cover. Some have an additional switch for electric inside the RV. The inside switch will not work if the outside switch is turned off.
Make sure your water heater is full of water BEFORE you turn it on.

Has the furnace ever worked? If not, I'm told there is a switch on the furnace that might not be turned on - I think
But turn the temp up on the fireplace regardless - it adds consider heat

When we full timed in the cold weather a few years back we would use two space heaters instead of using the furnace. Seemed like we were going through a bottle of propane on a daily basis. So I wouldn't trip breakers, the second one was with an extension cord off the pedestal that I ran up through a compartment. When it warmed up some, that 2nd one was the first be unplugged. Another thing we learned was never have your water lines to the north since they will be in the shade most of the time. The sun shine helps keeping them from freezing or thaw them out quickly.

2007 3400RL. We rarely camp in below freezing but are doing it now in Amarillo, Tx. We use two electric space heaters to supplement and usually leave our thermostat on about 60 at night to make sure the underbelly gets some heat. One space heater in the bedroom and one in the kitchen away from the thermostat.
