Gas springs under bed?
My king bed came with 2 80lb gas springs to help with opening the bed storage compartment and hold it open. Soon after buying the rig, we picked up a 3" memory foam mattress topper. It makes the bed great, but the storage springs will not support the new weight of the topper and mattress.
I'm finally going to do something about this. Should I just replace the 2 80lb gas springs with something stronger? I'm figuring I added ~30lb by adding the topper.
anyone tackled this problem?

Changed them out right after buying the 2013 rig.

I'm debating between replacing the 2 80lbs with 2 100lbs. Why jump to 2 120lb springs? I'm only adding about 30 lbs of additional weight?

On the other hand why take a chance on the 100 lb not being enough and having to buy again for the 120 lb? Not likely much cost difference and only buy once.

We used 100# ones on our old rig. On the new rig we're fine so far even with a heavier mattress.

Well if the 120lb is too strong the mattress will pop up as you ride down the road.

I have a 12inch memory foam mattress. King size residential, it’s heavy so I needed the 120.

I'm going to play with the storage lid with and without the 3" memory foam topper. If just the original mattress could use a little more help then I may could jump to 120#. Either way I'd only be out $30 for a set with a 50% change of getting it right :-)

Dont forget the bed frame is made up of 1"x2" soft pine boards. Actually now that I look at it, the struts are mounted to thin Luan 1/4" thick.

I'm cheap, just using a section of 1/2" PVC as a prop.

I have a prop, but the wife can't lift it to put the prop in. When my back hurts, I can't either.

Bed gas struts
We've upgraded bed platform & matress on 3721 & need 120# struts.
What brand has been used successfully & source? Thanks!

That's a good question. Mine are currently Industrial Gas Springs 80lbs. I checked with the manufacturer and found they are somewhat standard. 20" extended, 12" compresses. standard 10mm socket attachment.
Exact replacements were expensive. I ordered some 120# with the same specs on Amazon. I'll know if I chose wisely Monday.
