Again the 10 speed is not an Allison. It’s mainly a Ford designed transmission with a limited amount of help from GM. The new 9 speed SUV Transmission Ford and GM use was developed primarily by GM.
When GM put the Allison 1000 in their pickup Allison was a division of GM. Allison was sold off several years ago.

What is the payload on the 2020 Ram 2500 cause with the Cummins the 2019 is only 2300? I'm in the purchase mode too downsizing from a 2016 duramax dually. The 2019 2500 GM's had 2800 and the 2020's at 3500 look like what I'm leaning towards although I've owned a Ford 2 Dodges and 2 Duramaxes. The fact that Ford is still using the cp4 pumps is the only reason they are out. I pulled a 45 ft toy hauler @21,000 lbs with the dually we have downsized to a 295rl MHC with an empty pin weight of 2300 lbs.

I don’t think the HO engine or the Aisin transmission is available on a 2500 Ram. At least this is what my neighbor told me. He just bought a new 3500 Ram. He wonted a 2500 but said the HD engine or the Aisin wasn’t available. He got the 3500 SRW with the HO engine and Aisin.

The reason we downsized and gave up ATVs is because of back surgeries we really want as soft a ride as possible otherwise I think we would go SRW 3500.

I would say go drive all three and decide which is the best truck for you.

You sir are completely wrong.
Ford had nothing to do with the new 10spd Allison.
Yes there is a light duty 10spd that GM and Ford co-developed.
The two transmission have nothing in common, not the case, not a shaft.

Technically the GM Allison is an “Allison branded” transmission manufactured by General Motors, not Allison.

No they're not all Chevy's and no they are not over 40'
I'm like you, if they change the puck positions it will be a REAL disappointment

it might also be true that the new Chevy Allision is only a "Branded" Allision and not the same Allision as last year. If this is the case, I'd wait a year to pick up that package after the bugs are worked out.

I would guess Allison has provided all the engineering drawings so that GM can take over the manufacturing process and all that goes with that. And the transmission would be the very same, just manufactured by different people.
Not likely they would do that unless it was somehow financially beneficial to them.

Hey Kozzy...
Don't forget about GMC, I'm the proud owner of a 2020 2500 HD GMC Denali, had a 2019 before this one, the 2020 is a totally different truck, GM really raised the bar on this truck, it has everything, HUD display, myriad of cameras everywhere, very useful for tight spots and the trailer integration is amazing, albeit one of the accessories I still can't get yet, not available. The new 10 speed Allison is super smooth, unlike the six speed which was bulletproof, but shifted hard. They don't give these things away, cost as much as my first house, Argh, but, you get what you pay for. 18500 lbs towing off the bumper or fifth wheel, never seen that before...GM fixed all the things I didn't like about the 2019.

I checked, its not available on the 2500, if it was, my answer would be that. I currently have a 3500 Ram with the HO and ASIN, in my 1 ton. love it. but it is a rough ride

Looked at the GMC's as well, and the Denali's, love them, but they are a solid 10K over the others. Even a decked out Silverado LTZ with options all loaded up is a solid 5k less than the GMC. Looks like toe 2020 numbers for both are the same as as as capacity

Im even looking at the gasers, Ram is at 16,900 which is enough for my monty.
Someone asked payload for RAM 2500, its 3090 if equipped properly.
All the trucks listed here that we are talking about have the capacity to do the job, im just trying to decide.
this is helpful thank you.

You are right Kozzy...
They must charge an extra $1k for every letter in Denali, I got a pretty sweet deal though, regional dealer sells tons of trucks around the Southeast region, plus I bought the 2019 from them...
Good luck in your search man.

LOL, exactly right. I ordered my 2020 AT4, and poured over the option sheets. A loaded AT4, equipped the same as a Denali Ultimate is exactly $1000 less money.
I have had 2 Denali's and really wanted the blacked out front instead this time.
The tow tech is fantastic, HUD is very nice, center display gives a great image down the side of trailer when turn signal is on.
GM did change the puck locations on the 2020, my Demco ISR rail adapter should be here this week.
The new 10spd Allison shifts great, keeping the RPM's right on the torque peak, sooo smooth
I did go drive several Ram's including a Limited with the 1000ft lb Cummins, the interior is fantastic, but just couldn't bring myself to go there.

Denali has been at the top of my list. I like the "old man" tailgate. I'm in the Southeast in TN and GA both been shopping in GA where is this dealership?

Or you could get a 3500 RAM with the Aisin tranny... every bit as good as the Allison and perhaps even better since it is true Medium duty tranny.
Not saying the Chevy/Allison SRW combo is bad.... it was our top pick(in the DRW combo) until a RAM 3500 CC CTD dually came across our radar at an unbelievable price... we snatched it up. They aren't your dad's RAM PU anymore. Love it. But we could have gone either way. Food for thought. I doubt you will go wrong with either one depending how you use it. For full time use, with your trailer fully loaded, I'd think hard about the DRW, if not and using it more casually then the SRW may be okay. Your call.
We use our DRW so far as a daily driver... no real issues to speak of, yeah we cannot go through the car wash or park in tight spaces but walking an extra 100 feet is not a big deal to us. Driving the wider truck took very little time to get used to. We will be full timing with a 3811MS (comparatively similar in GVWR to your trailer) when we finally pull the trigger soon, we would never consider towing it with a SRW truck. JMHO.

I currently have a RAM SRW 3500 with the ASIN..its fantastic...I was in a frent end collision a year ago, and it has never been the same, which is why I am getting rid of it, the only reason. Since I use as a daily driver, id like to go back to a 2500 for the smoother ride. Plus, we dont tow anymore, we keep our unit at a seasonal site now, so i move it only a few times a year. Im even considering going back to a gas engine and saving 11K on the price. The new gasers put out impressive numbers, and have the capacity to tow the monty now. I have time, im going to look at them all, but if I want a RAM, I cant order a 2020 until Feb 2020,,,they will be coming out of detriot then too.

Yep, they'll pull it fine....but you'll be over the GVWR for the truck with a 250/2500.
