Rough Roads
I am thinking of taking I-80 from Ohio to Colorado, instead of I-70. Does anyone know how 80 road surfaces are. Leaving in June, just wondering how rough the roads are,in comparison to I-70 ...WE took 70 3 years ago a very rough route in my opinion. Also whats the cost for tolls, pulling a 5th wheel.

I drove it last fall late October and it was good. But who knows what this winter will do to it.. I think it’s a bit early to be asking.

I think I80 is a great road. Wide open spaces analope all along it. Just look for white dots an the fields. It reaches an altitude of 8800 feet. I think is the highest interstate in the US.

Just drove it from Calif to Ohio last Sept. Road pretty good, some construction, but not that bad. Construction probably changed by now.

No toll roads except in Illinois, I think, and part of that you can kind of bypass on a different 4 or 6 lane highway.

I-80 is great once you get west of Chicago. We have driven it three times in the past couple years.

Actually, the highest point is on I-70 at over 11k feet, the interesting part of the interest system is that the highest part is underground........ Eisenhower Tunnel.

I-80 is good but avoid I-40 in Arizona. I-40 is a disaster, especially west of Flagstaff.

You are forgetting that 80 is the toll road in both Indiana and Ohio. Illinois is the easy one because there is only a single toll about 10 miles from the Indiana boarder. The toll in Indiana with a 5th wheel across the state is around $40 I think. Ohio I am not sure of. After that It is a pretty smooth trip. Made it last summer from Northern Indiana to Colorado.

Thanks you are right. I learned something today.
If you have a naturally aspirated gasoline truck your power will be down 40%, ouch.

West from Ohio
We have driven the Ohio to Nebraska 80 route about 50 times, the only part that sucks routinely is the stretch from South Haven IN to Joliet IL (south Chicago), traffic and condition of the road Awefull . My and wifes opinion

And DO NOT drive thru Denver on I 25 (thats the N-S one, right?). I pretty much go out of my way thru Aurora now. I have tried I25 at 10 or 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and I have never gotten thru with out a stop and go stretch for at least 3 or 4 miles - and that is with no accidents - just heavy traffic.
