I wouldn't consider that trip without including some time in Lancaster County, PA.

Spend a few days or a week at Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA. Awesome campground and great launching point to Boston and Cape Cod.

I’m up here in Swan Bay Resort in Alexandria New York. Came up here after the MOC Rally. Never been up here. Looking for campsites & things to do between here & Maine. Want to head south from north east side of Maine in a month
Thank you

Avoid Rt. 95 which runs N-S through all the big cities on the east coast and can be stress inducing even without the 5er. An alternative I would suggest is Rt. 81 up through Pa. It's a big trucking route, but a much easier drive. There are routes from there to take you into the northeast (rt 84) or up through New York (rt 87). It all depends how much time you have on your hands. There's a lot to see up that way.

There is a museum or such in Shelborne, Vermont. It has a river boat that got moved in via a temporary railroad track for several miles, I think. Acadia NP in Maine. While there if you like lobster there are lobster shacks where it is pretty cheap. Wife ate it every day and on last day ordered the biggest one they had. Overkill - she didn't want lobster for many days after that !!!
We went the northern route and stopped in Cleveland Rock and Roll hall of fame and Niagra falls - both interesting.

If you have the time, a stop in Watkins Glen New York would be worth your time. You can tour the wineries and walk the glen and the town. You can also tour the Watkins Glen International Raceway and drive your vehicle around the track for a fee. There is a KOA near by or you could stay at Hickory Hill Campground in Bath New York and drive over. It is about a 30 minute drive or less. It is a beautiful area.

There are a few good tips here already to follow. Avoiding 95 would be my number 1 tip. I have made many trips from CT to western TN. The quickest route is I40 east and then pick up I81 north by Knoxville. In PA I take 78 on over but with a 5er I would suggest going past 78 and hit 84. A few options on 84 in CT. So many places to go on your trip, so many things to see, so much history. I will say this, hit 95 going into Main and stop off in Kittery to hit the Kittery Trading Post. Not sure where you are headed to but also try to get to Kennebunkport. Many great places for lobster. My wife and I are headed to R.I. with our 5er on the 17th for a wedding. It will be nice to get some fresh seafood once again.
Have a great trip.

I agree with TennTom, once around Boston, I-95 is fine. It is the Maine turnpike when you get up there and a good route to the coastal points in Maine. Rt. 1 is an excellent alternative, but I've never pulled my Montana up through there, and can't speak for clearances, although I've seen big stuff rolling through there before. It would be my preferred route if do-able.

I'll dog-pile on the "Avoid I-95" as much as practical commentary but you'll need to get on there once you get above Boston at some point, that is if you're going to visit the Trading Post in Kittery and Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery. Both are must stops in my book, I lived in Kittery for a few years and Bob's by far has the best lobster roll in the world.
I-93 through New Hampshire isn't a bad drive. Plenty of campgrounds near Loudon from which you can make day trips into the white mountains.
Acadia National Park is worth a couple days. Lots of people like to get to the top of Cadillac Mountain for the sunrise. If that's on your list, make sure you add an extra 40 minutes for traffic, even on Mt Desert Island. It's that popular. Bar Harbor is a typical tourist town, interesting enough for a few hours but the south and east ends of the island are more scenic and more peaceful.
Continuing north, if you have the time, St John New Brunswick is a nice place to spend a day. You can make a day trip to the Bay of Fundy from there. Halifax and Dartmouth Nova Scotia are also nice trips. Again, it's a matter of time and getting out of there before winter sets in.

One more tip if not too late: call ahead for a site wherever you're going. Lots of campgrounds up here roll it up for the season after Columbus Day.

As far as Maine goes...Acadia was awesome. Great views, great trails & beaches, great popovers at Jordan Pond House (although hard to get a parking spot it is so popular!) We will definitely be going back. Bar Harbor is a great little town to visit/stay. Make sure to stop at Red's Eats (in Wiscasset, ME) for a lobster roll on your way up. It is just a small little walk up trailer shack of a place just before the bridge, but it's well known for it's lobster rolls, so be prepared to stand in a long line....but you won't regret it...over a pound of lobster on one roll! it is to die for!
If you are a baseball fan, Stop in Cooperstown, NY on the way up. It is home to the Baseball Hall of Fame (3 stories high)..and is a great place to visit. The town is baseball themed with some great restaurants and shops. Also home to DoubleDay field!

If you go too late check campground closings. There are many closed by Oct. first.

I would have to add to the warnings to avoid I95 like the Plague. Out of North Arkansas choices are slightly limited but best bet is I40 to I81 to I88 into Albany from there State Highway North East into Maine. I81 is in pretty good shape all the way into Maryland. After that I don't now. I40 is in pretty rough shape in Tennessee, a lot of Construction.......
Best Wishes.....Safe Travels......
