If I would have installed the system I would defiantly install a flex line to each caliper like any car would have.
I don't understand why they did what they did.

Not only will you need to pull the calipers off to replace the pads, you will need to pull them to do any 12,000 mile bearing inspections. That's the way pre disc brake systems on cars and trucks used to be installed on the rear axle. Good and solid but not an appropriate way with disc brakes.

I am not that mechanical, so please answer the following for me. At the point of the caliper to the rotor in the brake assembly , is the energy applied electric or hydraulic? If hydraulic how do you make a connection from the truck that is electric to some type if hydraulic system?

You need to post a picture of that "hard line" to the caliper.

That is what the Hydrastar (or other brand) actuator does; convert the electrical signal from the tow vehicle to hydraulic. It is called an "electric over hydraulic system".

Here ya go bshgto, In the pic you can see the flex line coming down to a block. Out of one side a hard line goes to the closest caliper and the other side goes directly to the caliper on the other side.

I've noticed that most are running the hydraulic lines on the outside of the frame instead of dropping the underbelly and running the lines on the inside of the frame. Is there a reason for this, or just convenience? I'm putting the list together and will order all the parts when we get back from our trip in a few weeks.

It was suggested by a mechanic friend that if there is a leak it would pool in the underbelly and wouldn't notice a problem until it became a big problem. You really can't see the lines unless you stoop down and look. Also he said, if it's the look just spray the line black or cover with tubing.

My lines go down the outside of the drop down part of the frame then just before the steps, the line goes down the underside of the main frame. When I bought it the line went trough the spring hangers. BAD idea since I found one line had been smashed flat by one of the center shackles. I had the dealer replace the line and re-route it away from the moving suspension parts. The rear section is now zip tied to the coroplast. Not the best solution, but it works.

Zanettis in Weatherford Tx just west of Ft.Worth on I-20 installs the Kodiak brakes for around 2800.00 parts and labor. There was a write-up about them in Trailer Life magazine a couple of years ago.

I pretty sure that the caliper has to be able to move some what on the bracket. My caliper mounting bolts are fixed but the caliper slides on the sleeve that the mount bolts go through. So with hard lines to the caliper wouldn`t this restricted and eventual break the line from repeated movement. Look at your truck caliper I can move mine back in forth easily hence the flex line. Maybe I`m wrong. But I have replaced many worn brake pads that were on the fixed side from the lack of movement( caliper rusted on the pins). I`ll check mine on the camper after these 2 storms approaching us move through.

They never returned my emails and call pertaining to adding the IS. We decided after doing some calling around to let MORryde do the complete IS + disc job for us. I'm 65 and it has been 35+ years since I've done that kind of work under a car.

Do the fluid lines come from Hydrastar or etrailer? Are they metal or the newer flexible lines?
Buy everything from Etrailer if you don`t know what to get call them they are VERY helpful. I used and Kodiak recommends the 1600 psi unit. I also used the flexible brake lines for ease of installation they are rated for 1600 lbs too. Hydrastar recommends metal brake lines of a certain diameter but Etrailer says whooy about that. I would get the 24` line kit of your liking and buy a short 18 inch to 2` whip and a coupling with a 90 degree bend on one end of the brake line, it makes it a lot easier to bring the line up from underneath and connect to the unit. You can see that in the picture. I mounted mine behind my 6volt battery box in the front storage compartment at the wire loom junction for most of the trailer systems. You will need to make wire connections on the Hydrostart and all the wires you need to connect to are right there, no extending wires necessary, easy.

I read somewhere that they provide lunch while you watch I just wish I could round up the confidence to try it myself but still a bit squirmy about taking on a project that has so many safety concerns. It would be nice to save the $$$ but I'm considering the IS also.

If you don't have the basic tools or even more important, the experience and knowledge, you would be best off having someone qualified do the mod

They provide the lunch but i doubt they would want you watching. I had them do my brakes and i.s. and i would leave the rv at 7am and not come back until the afternoon. They give you a key to there shop so that you can come and go after hours. They took 1 and a half days on mine.

I have a 3711FL and want to do this conversion. Almost lost the whole rig this past weekend. Somebody cut me off and slammed on the brakes to make the exit. My 5ver just about went through my truck. Luckily, the SH that cut me off seen I couldn't stop and stepped off the side. Where can I get this done in the Detroit area?
