Rooftop sat install
Who has done one?
I am solar ready and see the taps up there, but thought it was also sat ready.
I find the dual inputs in the garage panel, but no cover plates or access on the roof.

Nope there is nothing up there and the plate will have to be custom bent since the roof on the new rigs isn't flat.

Far from flat
Maybe I'll just do the tripod instead........

Everyone's travels lead to different places. We are recreational campers and go to a lot of lakes. Over 1/2 the time a roof mount would be useless to us due to trees. We carry a Pathway X2 and a home made tripod. Setup is extremely easy unlike the older point the dish routine. We also carry a coated steel cable and lock ... won't keep a determined thief away, but will cause pause to consider another victim. Just something for you to ponder.

I mounted a tailgater on the roof permanently and close to the OTA antenna. I use the OTA cable and can switch between the two if need be. And I have another Tailgater that I can use when the roof top one don’t work.

I have seen a lot of folks mounting the taigaters on the ladders rather than directly on the roof and setting them up so that they can be removed and put on a tripod when necessary. I even saw one guy that had his mounted on a flag pole sort of setup so he could get it higher in the air to clear shorter trees (in some situations that would work). Here in Arkansas we have a LOT of large trees at most campgrounds and getting a signal gets real tricky. In many cases not only do you need a tripod but also a very looonnnnnnggggggg cable. In other cases you better bring a bunch of DVDs......

For those who don’t already have a satellite finder on their smartphone I use SatFinder Lite. It works great with no guessing as to whether the signal is blocked and it’s free.

I thought about it and ended up having Elkhart Satellite put one in at the national rally - very pleased with the outcome. I also carry a portable one to use, if needed.

P.S. - the owner/installer recommended not putting the support plate on because the roof did not need it.

First off, I've never seen a flat Montana roof. Secondly, we don't stay anywhere for more than a couple of weeks at a time. Traveling from CG to CG means we never know where the trees will be or if we have to run the dish out away from the 5er. Opted for a new version of the Tailgator and can set it on the roof (preferred place) or on the ground. Only place we haven't had coverage was in some deep woods.
