For those who go "camping" to only resort CGs, 4x4 isn't a hige priority and does impact towability adversely. But that capability for those of us who go to real camping spots is a must! (Let's ignore the real world needs outside camping). In some placrs like Death Valley, Big Bend, and many others, 4x4 can literally be a lifesaver. One trip at the bombing range on a USAF base even with 4x4 I had to dig out my "E tool" (entrenching tool) to dig us out of deep sand in a washed out stream bed/road and use deadfall wood to get enough traction with our F150. Yep, it lowers tow capability. And in the case of our '17 F250 it makes the beastly truck so tall it is a problem getting into the bed. I see you are a MSGT. Must be retired. Good on you, my brother! Drive on.

2017 F350 FX4 6.7L Crew Cab Dually Long Bed 4.10 rear end with factory puck system for gooseneck and 5th wheel. The Ford dealer had a Reese 25,000 lb. 5th wheel hitch installed in the puck system before I picked it up. We tow a 2017 Montana 3811 ms Legacy Edition (2705 lb hitch weight and 13,400 lbs. before we load it). Just logged a bit over 1000 miles towing. No problems. Truck tows the trailer great. Getting 9.5 to 10.8 mpg depending on wind direction while towing. Up to 18 mpg when not towing. Soon to be full timing in this rig. Happy that it has four wheel drive for that time when I might need it.

I have a 2017 F250 SRW Platinum with factory prep goose and fifth wheel. I had to buy the $300 Reese adapter plate that goes into the pucks on the floor, dropped my Reese 16K right on that, no issues. Bed hight was a concern, no more, its was just a touch high for my Open Range 5ver, Montana is fine.

Ok so this is bizzare. Took my 2011 F350 KR in for an oil change today and while I was waiting the salesman asked if I wanted to take a new super duty out for a ride. Great truck and was surprised at how much my truck would be worth as a trade. I parked my truck beside the 2017 and took out a tape measure. Truck bed is 2" higher than mine and bed rails at 60" is 3" higher than mine. Yes it's a 4x4 but hard to fine any thing but this far north.
I already tow pin high so unless I lift the trailer I would have real problems.
The unit I looked at didn't have the factory 5th wheel pucks but the dealer said he would install for me at no extra charge.
We'll see!

Don't be fooled by this...they are playing with the numbers and the inflated MSRP on the new truck. Check KBB and Edmonds, they'll tell you what your truck is really worth.

Same mistake I made and ended up with my new (at the time) 2012 F350 even though I had no intention of buying a new truck.

I had already looked at dealer's web site and he was offering $14,000 off sticker of any Superduty in stock at the time, end of model year. Well below invoice. Also on dealer's web site and they had a link WHAT IS YOUR TRADE WORTH. I clicked on the link, put in my truck info, and it returned a good value at $22,000. Locally I think most use Black Book for values based on local selling prices. So I talked with salesman and confirmed the $14k off sticker. Then we talked trade and he offered $6,000 less than the link showed. I told him I wanted the full value stated on his dealer link. After some back and forth, two "let me speak to my manager", and finally me heading for the door they gave in. Be persistent.

Update, 2017 F350 DRW 8' Bed King Ranch 4x4, 4:10's and put 1500 miles on it two weeks ago, pulled my 3950BR at 70 -75 Wisconsin and back to Missouri just fine. I thought my F250 did good (I was over GVWR) but F350 DRW was a noticeable stability increase. Ford dealer gave a me a stupid trade in on my F250 Platinum and had the KR in stock... liking it a lot for a tow vehicle.

I agree to get the value of your trade 1st. Any disabled vet can join the DAV and through them get the X-plan cost on a Ford product. No dickering about msrp. Plus you get all available rebates. You can get 2 every year.

Every vet gets the vet rebate. That # changes.

On my last 3 Fords I paid Xplan, several rebates and vet rebate that equaled several thousand dollars.

Assuming that you are talking about 70-75 mph in your comment, leads me to ask the question of whether the tires on the new Montana have increased speed rating? The older ones were rated at a maximum of 65 mph.

New Montanas come with Sailun S 637 G rated 14 ply. Best tire available today.

I am trading in a 2016 DRW 4x2 Lariat crew cab 3:73 with only 14000 miles because I got such a great trade in value and with rebates on 2017 not paying very much difference to trade. Waiting on a 2017 DRW 4x2 crew cab 4:10 to be shipped. It has been waiting shipment for 10 days.

So after taking our 2011 F350 KR in for an oil change and taking a 2017 F350 Lariat for a test drive we did the deal yesterday. Proved to be a very expensive oil change!
With the Employee Pricing, Delivery Discount, Costco and Loyalty discounts we got over $14k off of list. After the trade and some cash we financed the balance at 1.99%. I hadn't planned on doing this but we should be set now for the balance of our RVing life. Course I said that after I bought the 2011, heh, heh.
The trade value ended up being $10,000 less that what we paid for the truck 4 years ago. We put on 55,000km, 2 Snowbird trips plus many local camping trips hauling the 5er so I thought that was a pretty reasonable cost of ownership. The 2011 had the Extended Service Plan on it courtesy of the original owner and it was expiring Jan/18. Don't think I'll add the ESP to this truck as that's another $3-4,000 depending on term and mileage. I can always add it later.
Interesting that the 2011 list price was $84k and the 2017 is $87k and despite the Lariat being one trim level down the new one has even more bells and whistles.
I am getting the dealer to switch out the fuel tank from the factory 33 Gal to a Titan 55 Gal. No more refuelling during our travel days. Going to enjoy that.
The 2017 has 5 cameras and the one showing the box will be particularly useful when hooking up. Oh yes, finally, a 2 stage manual engine/exhaust brake. This was my biggest complaint with the 2011after owning a Dodge CTD with a very effective exhaust brake. Going to enjoy the safety the Exhaust brake provides when we travel through the Rockies.
The menu system for the dashboard screens is a bit overwhelming but we will have lots of time to explore during our trip to Arizona in November. The menu system is much smoother and more intuitive to operate. Much like my IPad.
Still debating on the spray in bedliner and will need to see if the dealer will throw in some mud flaps. I noticed that the Nav system on our 2011 was listed as a cost of $3,000. On the 2017 it's $800. Interesting how technology does come down in price after it's not a new and novel item.
The one big question mark is the 2” higher bed height and 3” higher bed rails. Going to have to see what adjustments I will need to make to the Trailer and hitch so my trailers rear bumper isn't dragging.

2017 at $87K? How do you do that? I have a King Ranch Ultimate 4x4 Crew with almost every single option you can get and it was $79K. See sticker attached -
