Have been using a strap for years after pulling into a campground and discovering the spare hanging close to the ground

Really unfortunate event. Everyone should check UNDER their RV as much as they check the sides and top. Since the Monty is a trailer, the suspension, tires and items under the Monty can take a beating and not be seen until it is too late. I have been surprised more than once when I crawled under and look at everything under the RV. Fortunately, no disasters so far after 11 years of towing. That excludes about 4 blow outs! Have safe and pleasant travels.

Good reminder. I do check that the spare is tight each year. Has never been even slightly loose. And although I always check my tire pressures on the ground, I have sometimes been lax on checking the spare. But after checking one time and finding my spare tire pressure around 40 psi, I have gotten better.

I've always had a ratchet strap around the spare tire and it's carrier frame as a backup. I've seen the cable setup dangling even on pickups.

Precisely why I carry the 5er spare in the bed of the pick-up since I took delivery! Easier to check air pressure, and in case it is needed, there is no need to be crawling around under the trailer to get to it.

I like the idea of adding a ratchet strap to the spare. That will be on my to do list for tomorrow

Thanks for the tip. The new ratchet strap is securing the spare tire. The strap is red so a quick glance will show if everything is good. Thx again
