LED Rope Lighting
I affixed some 12 volt LED rope light to the underside of the kitchen counter, wired in a switch and a circuit breaker (on the back side of the cabinet where the drawers are) and wired it into the 12 volt feed supplying power to the propane detector. The lights use a total of 0.81 amps - nothing!

I like that. Vickie might have me steal (borrow) your idea.

Nice!!! Mood lighting.... Very purdy. That would make a good and ample night light, too. In our rig we have a night light that plugs into a 110v outlet and localizes the light creating shadows and hiding "obstacles". I like your solution.

Ok...where did you get that LED rope from? I'm looking for some rugged rope that I can wrap around my flag pole when I'm doing the Nascar in-field thingy. Last set was solar recharge but string was el-cheapo and now its in landfill...

This was the best price that I could find when I was looking: 3/8" 12v Rope Light from SailorSams.com
I specifically went with 12v and LED for two reasons: 1) I wanted them to run off the batteries if we are boondocking (which we have been doing more and more, lately) and 2) I wanted no heat and low amperage draw.

I have the same kind of rope light.
I bought 10' of rope for 9.95,I ended up with 40' of red white and blue for a little over 40.00
Oh yeah,I purchased from Home Depot!

How did you attach the rope light to the under counter lip?

I bought my rope light at Costco during the Christmas season (which ought to be starting any time now). Can't remember the cost, but pretty cheap.

I put some rope light on top of the cabinets. Same effects but not 12volt. It does make it nice when watching tv or if your out for the evening.

Fire5er,
Because I used LED as opposed to incandescent, the cheaper stuff found at popular hardware stores, no heat is generated. With no heat, I used some really good double sided tape to temporarily affix the rope light to the underside of the counter top, in various places. I then used clear silicone and glued the rope to the plywood and corian.

I've got to stop reading this forum. I just finished moving the vacuum into the cabinet and ordering a door for the new opening I created and now I have to order the 12 volt rope lights. Will the mods ever end???
