escapees or smart
I'm sure we have lots of folks who have experience with Escapees and/or SMART travel club. Any word on the pros and cons on the two groups? We met a SMART group while visting Meteor Crater last July (08). They were caravaning and having a great time. We've met a few Escapees, but they've always been alone. We've run into quite a few groups of Montana owners having a great time as well. Bob and i love caravaning and camping with groups. I know it's an individual decision, however we'd like input if anyone feels like sharing.

We are not members of Escapees or SMART but, if it is camping and communicating with others that you enjoy, the MOC forum is the place to be. There are rallies all over the country for MOC members. These are great places to go to meet others with common interests and rigs. The other members are helpful, friendly and just nice being around.

We have been Escapees for the last two years and have learned a lot from their forum. Until we ordered our new Big Sky and joined MOC we thought that Escapees had the best forum. We still post to that forum but not as often as here. We also use the SKP mail service. We really like the mail service. We have met several SMART members this year, but only while visiting military CGs. We are still at Skidaway Island in Savannah and there are several Montanas here but no MOC members. We have looked into SMART and like what we see but we will wait till after the stick house sells before joining another club. We haven't tried any formal caravans and since the prices we have seen for them is usually in the thousands we will probably not take part in one any time soon.. Dave and Betsy

We've been Escapees members for several years. Love their magazine and parks. We've been to two of their Escapades. That is what they call their rallies. We enjoyed both the rallies but they're not as intimate as the MOC Rallies.
We've not heard of the SMART group. It sounds like it might be a military related type group.
You just need to research and pick the plan or plans that fit your needs. Many of us do not belong to any membership groups. But it all depends on exactly what you want.
Good luck,
HamRad

I'm not very familiar with them but Escapees has some special interest groups they call BOF (Birds of a Feather). You might check their website for more info and what BOF's are available. We are Escapees members but have only used the park discounts and one of their co-op parks. I'm not familliar with SMART.

There are pros and cons to any group. We belonged to SMARTs until this year and also belong to a local Good Sam Club. Smarts and the local Good Sam Club provided a means to meet with other individuals with similar interests. Our Good Sam chapter has a monthly rally where we get together for food, golf, games and just good old fashioned fellowship. The Smart chapter was larger than the Good Sam Chapter and we just hit better with the smaller group. The key is what are you looking for. Some chapters only have rallies at parks located in their area while others do plan longer trips. In our case, our chapter has about nine rallies in and around Texas and we are trying to plan a longer road trip each year. Each club is different.
We are also planning on attending the MOC rally in Branson this May. We like to travel and meet others who have similar interests. The best thing to do is search out a group and attend one or two of their rallies. Then when you find a fit, jump in and enjoy the company.

Thank you all for the input. I just found out that SMART is an acronym for Special Military Active Retired Travel. It is what it appears to be...a military based camping group. I'm sure Captain Bob will hitch up with them. I don't have any military experience, so when he talks big boats it falls on deaf ears. After 30 odd years in the Navy he will still need something to talk turkey with. The only turkey I do is on the holidays and there isn't a whole lot of discussion involved
Thanks again,
KJ and Captain bob

We are members of Escapees and Good Sam. Have not heard of Smart until now. Will join the Escapade (Escapees rally) in Wyoming in June after the Branson MOC rally. We went on a Good Sam Nova Scotia tour last year. All good.
