Question regarding washing the roof of the trailer
I was inspecting our roof and noticed numerous dark spots. Do any of you add a small amount of bleach to the detergent when washing the roof? I was thinking of 1/4 cup of bleach per gallon of soapy water and then rinsing.

I used Tilex on mine, it got rid of most. Spray on, let sit for a couple minutes, scrub rinse.

Be careful what you use...be sure it won't take the wax off the sides as you wash it off.

Use Dawn Liquid that is all you need that will remove the gray oxadation from the EPDM this keep it from running down the sides of the trailer do not concern yourself if their are dark area's

I use straight pool chlorine mix half and half water in a bug sprayer. Put it on in SMALL AREAS just let it sit for a few minutes then spray off and spray the sides at the same time to make sure no residue left no scrubbing needed. Then dicor roof conditioner after. no spots left. and before you write anything i cleared it with a rv and rubber roof experts and there is no harm in doing it this way. just make sure to fully spray it off. and it works on the awning at the same time. then awning conditioner after on that also.

These little dark spots seem to be ubiquitous--(they are also found almost everywhere )
I think anything you try to do to eliminate them totally will likely do more harm to the roof than the spots.
I wash my roof regularly (couple of times each year) but I've learned to live with those little dark spots.
Just my opinion and experience, of course.

Just don't use a fruit smelling soap or you'll have roof damage from birds and other critters.

Have used a bleach/water mixture for the hard to remove spots and Dawn dish soap for everything else.

Don't worry about a few gray spots. Nobody is going to judge you on them! Mine has a few and I haven't lost ANY sleep over it. Actually I did toss and turn for about 10 seconds last night.

I've never even bothered to wash a camper roof. They have a 10 or 12 warranty on the membrane of you do nothing to them and the same warranty if you keep them spotless.

I have my rig washed about 3 or 4 times a year because of where I stay (trees and birds) and to get the bugs off. I have been on the roof several times but the older I get the more I fear the climb down. For me up is not bad but getting back down is a scary deal. They wash the roof with the same thing they use on the rest of the rig. I hate it but I think I am at the point that I will have someone wax it for me.

I tried BEST Rubber Roof Cleaner & Protectant. It took about 1/2 gallon straight. My roof has never looked whiter. It even removed the water stains from the A/C, which I had never been able to get rid of. However, you must follow the manufacturers directions to the letter. I did it in sections, then washed the sides after completing the entire roof. I still had gray residue streaks down the sides. I had to wash it a second time lightly using a coarse sponge. Then going over what was left with a wet cloth and drying with a lint free cloth. I have a 5 year coating put on by General RV. The coating was not harmed and all looks well. Lesson learned. The next time I won't let the residue washed off the roof dry before rinsing the sides.

What is this 5 yr. coating you mentioned that was installed by General RV? I'm always looking for a better (and easier) method to care for my rig.

I don't wash the roof of the stick house, and I never saw the need to wash the roof on Monty. I did once, just because , but I'll be 70 next month and I'll probably not do it Again. If that makes me a slacker, then so be it. Who's gonna look up there anyway?

The five year coating is a special coat applied just as you would wax, but General guarantees it will last 5 years. When I purchased my Mountaineer early last year, I spent 4 days waxing by hand. Having to do that twice per year would eat up a month of my time over that 5 year period. So, last fall General RV made it worth the price. A light wash cleans all the bugs off the front. My rig still looks like new after travelling south for the winter plus all our camp outs and rallys.
