Campgrounds in Northern SC, GA, lower TN areas
We're looking for some good fall campgrounds to go to. Must be pet friendly, near or has hiking trails, near things to do, but not right in the middle of tourist areas. Large sites, doesn't have to be FHU. County and state parks are good too. What are some of your favorites that might meet this criteria for us to look into?

In Tennessee there is Fall Creek Falls State Park between the towns Dunlap and Spencer with good access off Hwy 111. They rebuilt an area of their RV park for larger rigs about 2 years ago, with water, sewer, and 50 amp, check it out, you will enjoy the hiking, fishing, bike paths, restaurant and golf course.

We are fortunate to live about 20 minutes from Lake Lanier in Georgia. Just about any Corps of Engineers park on Lanier is beautiful but we especially like Bald Ridge Creek and Duckett Mill. From Lake Lanier you can spend the day seeing Atlanta or take a short trip up to the mountains to hike and see some beautiful waterfalls. The outlets are not far off if that's your cup of tea.

Wow, that looks awesome! What site # is that?
Is that place really only open for 6 months a year? I was looking for early November, and it says it's open until Sept 6th... bummer.

That's site #44, but there are a lot of really nice sites at Bald Ridge. And unfortunately, yes, it's only open till September. It's one of our pet peeves that the Corps of Engineers has all these beautiful campgrounds near us on Lake Lanier and they are not open year round. We love to go out in the Fall.
BUT... We just found out a SECRET: for the past two "off seasons" Sawnee, another beautiful C.O.E. Campground on Lake Lanier has been allowing campers to camp on the honor system. You just take an open site and put your fee in an envelope in a box at the gatehouse. We're hoping to try it out this Fall.
