LED Awning Light Strips
I'm thinking about adding an LED multi-colored light strip under my awning. I plan on wiring directly to the 12V inside my porch light. I had a rope light hanging from the awning tube but I have to take them down everytime I need to put the awning in. Just looking for any input - has anybody had any problems? Are they safe? Can I wire to my porch light or use the 120V adapter with cord that is included?
Thanks for any advice!

Mine came installed via the factory, This is my second trailer with LED light strips. No problems with either one. I saw a post, probably on another forum and the install was just like you want to do, Just taped into porch light. If I remember correctly, the first time he flicked the switch they did not work, he switched the wires and they worked. LED light strips can be polarity sensitive. If they don't work one way reverse the wires and try again.

You can wire it to your porch light if the output voltage on your light strip power supply is 12 volts (probably is, but not all are). Do not use the 120 adapter. Polarity will matter when you connect it.

Yep, I did this mod as well. Be sure to seal up the connections. I also cleaned the area to attach the strip to with alcohol. And I also used 3M weatherstrip adhesive double sided tape. Do not rely on the adhesive that comes on the rolls.

I used industrial strength velcro on the awning tube and the led strip and purchased an extension that allows me to use the 120v adaptor with an outlet at the bottom of the awning support arm. If I have to retract the awning, I just unhook the power supply a d retract the awning with the led's in place. I did not want to mount on the rig since ours is painted. It works great for us with the remote that came with the led's from amazon. Counting velcro and additional conne tors, total investment of $70 or so.

I wired ours to the porch light and put the receiver in the light itself. I left the sensor extending out of the light cover so the remote works with it. I used 3M to attach the light strip just under the awning. I then used 3 M tape to attach a second strip to the awning boom. I used an extended wire to attach the two so they work as one with the same remote. They work fine. Bought both from Amazon for about $16 each.

Make sure to get the 12 volt strip lights. Amazon for about $16. Use the 3M moulding double sided tape. I made the mistake of eyeballing a straight line. Use a laser level or something to get a straight line. Tied in to porch light just like petmoose.

Thanks everyone for your reply and the great suggestions. I think I'll go ahead and attempt this install, and will purchase some 3M double-sided tape to help secure the lights.
