We justspent two weeks in the Yellowstone and Tetons. We are now in Cody and heading to Thermopolis today. It was very smokey while we were there, could hardly see the Tetons. Some smoke here as you can see it in the distance.

Thermopolis, all I can say is I hope you enjoy it more than we did. The smell is way beyond my liking. Scenery is good but not worth going back as far as I am concerned. If you like the smell of sulpher, you will be fine...lol

Now Cody on the other hand is my best spot out west period. Loved that town and the surrounding area and did I mention the rodeo's. Oh yea, every night theres a rodeo and I could have went every night.

Good luck and as always, have fun!

I think I agree with Thermopolis, but the sulpher smell was strong in Yellowstone as well. The game is being thinned out by the wolves that were introduced, except for the Buffalo - so far.
Our best place so far has been the Black Hills area which we will revisit in the future.

We loved it all. Black Hills, Yellowstone, Tetons, Yosemite, Redwoods, OR Coast, etc. Decompressing back home, now.

Need some info about W. Yellowstone and area. Is there room for our size rig at the public park at Cliff lake (down the road from the private cabins / camp ground or are we too big?
Stayed in the cabins a few years ago and that campsite got me to think about being in my own RV. Cliff and Wade slake are amazing.

I would think you will be able to get in there. The turn down by the lake is the only thing I'm not sure of. That road coming in was so bumpy the last 2 years I don't know if I want to take monty down it. Those 2 lakes are gorgeous arent they!! We ride our 4 wheelers from Redrock RV Park over to the lakes. Get to see alot of beautiful country that way.

Edit- You could stay someplace else for a day and ride out there and see if it will fit.

Chip I have bad news for you, One pack of wolves are preying on buffalo. I too just returned from a visit to Yellowstone. I talked to 2 park rangers and this is the story both told me.
There are "10,000 elk down from 20,000" elk in the park.
"92 - 97" wolves in "10" packs that ate "292" elk which are "85%" of their diet.
Wolves eat every "2 to 8 days"
So let me see that is 29 elk per pack or one elk every 12 1/2 days. If they eat every 8 days and elk are 85% of their diet what do they eat the other 4 1/2 days? Both told me bears sometimes take their kill away from then. They also said they "only ate the young old and sick". The elk I saw them eating in PBS looked like a mature very healthy bull. Another thing they told me was there are elk watchers who watch their every move. Their are parts of the park that haven't even been explored. New water falls are still being discovered. Do they go there?
I'm not sayings they are mistaken but there are a few more questions I would like to ask. I can say there are a lot less elk than there was the first time a visited the park. I don't think I saw over a dozen elk in the park. If you wont to see elk go to the Rocky Mountain park. We saw them by the dozens.
But hurry there are wolves as far south as I80 or farther. We stayed on a ranch 35 miles west of Laramie. All the ranchers have seen wolves on their ranches.
