South Dakota License Plates
I am considering having my domicile in South Dakota. Have looked at Alternative Resources and thinking pretty hard about them. My question is.......What might be the round about license plate fee on my 5th wheel that has a dry weight of about 12,500lbs. I know it can't be exact, just want a round about. This is the part that I don't like as I have a MI license plate that is permanent (as in for life) and hate to give that up. Trying to weigh all the pro's and cons is all.
Thanks
Dave

$107 for 5th wheel (if I remember right it is done by length) and $72 for truck. Year and make in our signature.
Happy trails.........

South Dakota is my domicile. I just paid for my 07 chevy $57.00 and my 08 monty $127.00 in August. They figure your amount weight and year for about the first 5 years. Also the plates are permanent.

Thanks for the replies. Now lets extend this a little further. Is there anyone out there that has gone to Alternative Resources this year? With the new Homeland Security everything seems to be new.
Thanks in advance.

We went through Alternative Resources this summer. We applied for and received our plates and vehicle insurance before we went there for driver's licensing.
It was a great all around experience. We used Dougherty for insurance (link on AR pages)as well.
If you want details on costs and paper work that you will need the best thing to do is just give them a call. They are quite helpful and knowledgeable. I think all we provided for ID was current license, passport, and SS card.
Still, my advice is to just give them a call. Second hand information could be off the mark.

Haven't been in their place in a few years but we've used Alternative Resources since February 2003. We also use Dougherty for our insurance.
We renewed our registrations in August. I don't have the breakdown at hand but the total charge for
- 2007 Montana 3400RL
- 2007 Dodge 3500 SRW Megacab
- 2004 Ford Focus ZTW
- small charge for using a credit card for payment
was $279.40. This time I paid online.
