We stayed there in 2005. Liked the campground, thought the premium sites were worth the money. Dis not move my truck for five days. Shuttle from campground to the metro station was free. Bought the daily unlimited pass metro pass and never had to worry about parking. Metro was nice, fast, clean and i felt safe. But i was always fully aware of my surroundings and people (marine corps and combat experience).
Don't know about what it is now, but i would not hesitate to stay there again.

Great cg to stay and visit DC from. Suggest you contact your congressman/woman and set up some free tours. White House, Kennedy Center, lots of tours available free but you need reservations setup by your reps.

We've not stayed there (it's close by) but have heard very good reviews like above. They are geared for folks like you and have good orientation and concierge programs. Their shuttle takes the worry and hassle out of going into DC and getting around.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. Ditto on the transporation and contacting your congressman/woman for tours. You have to make reservations for several places (ie. the White House) but it's an easy process. Cherry Hill is not a destination, but it's great for seeing DC and spending the night. Make sure you plan meals ahead (maybe put some in the freezer) because when you get back to the 5th wheel cooking will be the last thing on your mind. We were pretty tired when we got back each day.
