CA- 299
Has anyone towed their Montana on CA-299 from Eureka to Redding.
I thought it was a good road, but my navigation tells me no.

Ron and Rose,
We did tow our 3295 over this route. It is a scenic route. The road itself was in good condition when we used it. The route is a bit curvy and up and down but we enjoyed the trip and would not hesitate to use it again. There were some sections that had 3 lanes to allow for passing. Of course once you get almost into Redding you even get some 4 lane sections. Some nice CGs in the Whiskey Lakes area. Some early California gold rush history up in this part of the country.
Good luck. Dennis and Mary Kay

I too have driven Hwy-299 but from Redding to Eureka. I did it with my 2955 in tow. As Dennis says, a bit curvy but very scenic. As long as you aren't in a big hurry (lots of "Slow to 15 MPH" corners where you can check the tires on the rv as you go by them ). If you are in a hurry, there isn't any other route that will be faster. So take your time and enjoy the ride.

Ron, we just drove this stretch to Redding a couple of weeks ago. Very scenic and pretty with lots of color showing up. It wasn't too crowded this time of the year and there are plenty of passing lanes for people to go around. And yes, there are plenty of 15mph curves. Our biggest problems were the long and slow down grades that caused the brakes to get plenty warm even going slow and using the engine to slow the monty ( 3582 ) down. There was major construction going on as you near Redding where we were delayed about 15 minutes twice. Make sure you have plenty of fuel as there was only one place that was easy to get in and out of in Weaverville.

Started on 299 from 101 and stopped at the Casino for fuel. They said it was snowing on the passes and chains were needed. We went back to 101 and even had snow flurries and some ice on the road. Ended up going over 20 and hit I-5 at Williams. Instead of going back north to Red Bluff we ended up getting to Jackson Rancheria RV Park late in the evening. Not warm here but the views are fantastic.

Ron and Rose,
Wow! Sorry to hear the problem with the weather. But I look at that sort of thing as just another opportunity for a different "adventure"! Highway 20 is a nice route too. And nothing wrong with having to stay at Jackson Rancheria! That must be one heck of a big and powerful weather front moving through the area! Keep on enjoying. Dennis

Wow....that sounds like a really long travel day!! We hope you are able to relax and enjoy your time in Jackson before heading back out. We spent a week there a couple of weeks ago. There is so much to see and do in that area. See you in Q!!
