Heater and WASP
I know we all must have this problem at some time, what do you do? Wasp have invaded my heater exhaust pipe. Is it ok to start the heater and let the heat drive them out or kill them? If there is a nest in the pipe how do you get it out? If there is a nest in the pipe could that cause a problem starting the heater to drive the wasp out?

I'd imagine you'll have to use a coat hangar or something to try and get at it. I reckon it all depends on how big the nest is. If you're talking about wasps and not dirt dobbers, I bet the heat will just roast the nest away. After all is said and done, buy you one of those stainless steel screen mesh domes that fit over the exhaust from the backside of the exterior cover ... it'll prevent this from happening again.

RV parts departments carry a stainless steel screen easily attached, which stops that. Several models, designed for specific heaters.

If you live in an area that has a goodly number of mud daubers you'll want to have screens on all the openings. We bought them for everything but the refrigerator vents and hot glued screen wire over the openings on those.

I had Mud Daubers around the squirrel csge fan.
had to remove furnace to remove the nest and I had screens go figure!
For other nests an RV dealer to use compressed air ether in exhaust or intake can not remember which

I found wasp nests behind our refrigerator vents and water heater vent. I went right out that day and bought the stainless steel screens for the refrig., water heater and the furnace vents. No more problems with wasp nests!
I check occasionally inside of the pin box too in case they start making a nest in there also. Hate to reach in there to pull out the cord and grab a handful of angry wasps! OUCH!!

Got a big dirt dobber nest in the squirrel cage blower fan. Turned it on and I thought the air conditioner was coming apart. Took off the AC plastic cover, removed the fan and cleaned it out. No more problems, but I check it frequently. Will look for some stainless steel screen. Didn't think about that.

We had the mud dabbers in both the pin box and the propane storage compartments. No real way to keep them out of the propane compartments, but a real surprise if you go to change a bottle.
