Bad Tire & Dave's Tire Shop UPDATE
Just as we arrived at the Hardeeville Campground today, the lady checking us in said "I followed you in and your left rear tire on the 5th wheel has a big bulge." Holy *#%$%. Boy, did it. Thank Karma and exnavydiver (Dave McNair), Dave's Mobile Tire Shop was johnny on the spot! A BIG GIANT THANKS to Dave! Bob says we're shopping for Goodyear G614's tomorrow. Cost or no cost.
UPDATE: The US distributor, TBC, is refunding the full purchase price for the bubbled tire. Thanks, TBC. And we have an appointment Monday to get a new set of Goodyear G614's.
Bulge in Tomax Rad STR BW E (10 ply) purchased August 2009

Glad you arrived safe. Know Dave and Betsy are glad to see you. If you are in Eustis look us up.
Glad you caught the tire problem before it became a disaster.

I don't think any amount of pimple cream will help that sucker. Good thing it didn't blow......I'm really worried now as I have 5 Towmax tires and looking for the Goodyear G614's.....

I have never seen a bubble on a tire like that. It looks like you dodged a bullet on that one.

I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen any kind of bubble quite like that either. I’m glad everything turned out ok for you guys.

I too switched to the G614 tires. I had a 2nd blow-out on my Carlisle tires while traveling to Fl in December. Surprisingly, the best price and service I got was at Camping World in Statesville NC.

I had the exact same thing on a Goodyear Marathon, on our prior Montana, back in 2003 or 2004.

I have seen bulges before but not many that big. I think I remember seeing one that Steve Riegel posted and you know it's only sheer luck it did not blow before being caught. In your case thank God that lady noticed.
Some things can't be caught by tire monitors, or checking the pressure before a trip so we must always be diligent about checking our gear. I know posts like these keep me on alert.
On edit - I see that Steve posted the picture on page two of this topic. In Steve's case it looks like the bulge is on the outside of the tire, but in Bob's case it looks like it might have been on the inside of the tire. That's gotta be even luckier to catch.

I know what a bubble like that looks like, not a pretty sight. Ours happened a year and a half ago on our way to Goshen (Mission Tires). We are glad you made it to Hardeeville safely.

Our Missions bubbled like that also, just not as pronounced. Is it (or should I say was it??) one of the infamous Missions?

With this happening to several brands of tires, it might be an argument for nitrogen filled tires. Just food for thought, question being, has anyone had this happen with nitrogen filled tires ?

Bingo, this tire was not a Mission; it was a Tomax. But the same thing happened to our Mission tires in Vermont last summer. Same tire. Go figure. By the way, that particular tire (left rear) is not overloaded and in fact is under the max weight rating according to our weight figures from the rally.

We had the same thing happen to us when we had Missions. A truck driver flagged us down, it blew while we were waiting stopped waiting for a service truck.

Art, I should clarify. That picture is after the tire had sat in the bed of my truck for the weekend, waiting on the replacement to arrive. The bubble was much smaller when first noticed but grew over a couple of days. Here's what it looked like when first noticed. And, yes, it's on the outside.
