Would you buy a Montana again?

I'm questioning how much longer we will keep my 2019. For those of you who have purchased newer rigs, how has the quality been? Are you still happy? Would you buy another one? I recently had the opportunity to check out the new Brinkley line of trailers at our local Mike Thompson RV center, who carries Montana's, Solitudes, and everything else. The Brinkley is a fresh company, the owners use to own Grand Design, sold it, and ventured off to start this new company, with an emphasis on quality and customer service. I was very impressed with the Brinkley as one of Brinkley's own reps was there to explain their company, construction and quality of their trailers.

I've seen the Brinkley. Looks nice but I've heard much of the same from the dealers service department. Personally If I had to do it again I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Monty. I'd love a Legacy with full body paint and disk brakes.

I love the floorplan on my Montana, but it is not built very well. I think it is a piece of junk.
I would not buy another one.

You have a 2019...covid build! They had a lot of problems during covid.

We have two RV shows a year, Fall & Spring. Spent about 4 hours looking at new 5ers of many brands at this years Fall show, its hard to find a well built interior on any of the new ones selling for under 75K (show price). They just don't make them like they use to. I love my 2015 monty. Built to last.

This is just and excuse not a reason. I would not buy another been lied to to many times by dealers and the factory like the guy with the yellow floor
(it`s because people walked on it at the rv show and at the dealers lot--not covered under warranty) yeh right. Alliance, Brinkley, KZ Gold has my vote for the next one.

My unit was built mid-Nov 2017 and it was a GOOD week in Goshen. We love the floor plan. I have addressed the few small items myself. Glad we bought this Montana - but Lord willing - this is it ‘til the cows come home.

Yep, we would. Ours has been very good to us. But it wouldn't be automatic. I spend time watching reviews and factory tours from other brands, including Montana. There are MANY similarities and a few differences. There are other brands that I would seriously consider based on how they're built and what owners have to say about them.

• Alliance Paradigm
• Brinkley (they just don't have the floor plans yet)
• Durango Gold
• Cedar Creek
• Riverstone Reserve
• Brookstone
• The newly designed 2024 Alpine is worth consideration
• Maybe East to West Ahara

These all have some positive things to consider. But it's always an odds game of whether the one we end up with has serious problems or not. That's also a possibility with all of them.

For now the one we have is serving us quite well. Who knows what the industry landscape looks like in another 4-5 years.

We love our Montana, it’s doing everything we bought it to do and with less maintenance than expected. We are finding ourselves spending much more time in it than just traveling around the south during the winter, which was the original plan. We’re retired and a little older so I don’t know if there will be another 5th wheel in our future, but if there is, we’ll shop different brands at this price point and maybe a little higher, but would definitely buy another Montana.

Here is a list just off the top if my head of the problems we've had with our (bought new) 2020 3121rl:

1. Both awning rails pulled away from the wall (screws stripped out).
2. Bathroom sliding door pocket didn't align with the door when closing.
3. Crown molding fell during travel.
4. Huge hole leading from the J channel to the back side of the "wet bay".
5. Heating pad came off fresh water tank allowing it to freeze and split.
6. Bubbles in the Dicor where the front cap meets the roof.
7. Both rear J channels came out from under the trim pieces.
8. 6" section of the sealant missing on the lower left front cap.
9. Self resetting breaker undersized. Kept tripping when using jacks or opening hydraulic slides. Had to replace it with a higher capacity.
10. AC duct outlets leaking into the roof cavity (poorly taped).
11. Wooden step grills split when nailed.
12. Rear awning wire holes not fully sealed where they went into the wall.
13. Passenger side spring hangars broken. Appears they were "adjusted" with a hammer to get the leaf springs to align.
14. Refrigerator securing bracket pulled loose from the wall.
15. Ice maker line not correctly connected behind the cabinet. Leaked when I turned the water on.
16. Exterior range hood vent leaked during heavy rains.
17. Strut brackets on driver side basement door came off.

Since we're full timers having anything fixed under warranty was impractical so we took care of everything ourselves.

No we would not buy another Montana.

We both came from camping families and have had an RV for the last 25 years. Before this 5’er, We came out of a gas Class A. When we purchased our 2022 3791RD, I thought I did a thorough job in my research. I should have done more. We love the floor plan. It has all the equipment we want. We are full time. 5 months in a seasonal park and on the move for rest of the year. Happy to have the diesel power now that we are traveling 7 months a year. But the quality has been disappointing. Our 7 year old Class A had a handful of failures over 100,000 miles. We have had more issues in one year with less than 10,000 miles. I would gladly pay more (and will on my next one) for better quality. I do most of my own repairs and maintenance. I just didn’t think it would be this much. Fixing quality issues like trim falling down and screws pulling out. Fixing mechanical failures in systems like heating and slides plus the non stop nagging small crap.

We Had a 2015 3790RD. Like I just said, HAD. Nothing but trouble with this trailer so we got rid of it, took a loss but got rid of a huge headache. We have SOB so that we can enjoy camping and travelling instead of repairing it.


NO, we would not buy another Montana and we didn't.

Had quite a few initial issues, most of which were repaired under warranty. Some not, so I did the repair. I would buy a Montana again but be more aware during the initial inspection before you take delivery. They will repair issues a lot faster when the RV sale hangs in the balance then after you take delivery!

If I were in the market for a new camper, I'd consider another brand other than Montana, IF.... it had a rear door on the opposite side of the camper like my current one does. If it doesn't have the door on the opposite side, I will not consider it. We love our floor plan and this one is going to be hard to match. The only exception is the Montana High Country 376FL and 377FL (same floor plan but with a loft above the main bed room.

The reason we selected THIS specific Montana High Country was because of the unique floor plan, not necessarily because it was a "Montana." We bought the floor plan, not the "brand."

I would state I have full-time lived in this trailer since new and I really like my floor plan as it works nicely. However, the lack of quality workmanship & materials used should be a crime for the money you pay. Older models by far were much better quality than the junk they put the Montana name on now. No, I would not buy another Montana...
