An educated consumer is the best consumer! It sounds like you have had quite and adventure. Nice pick with regards to the new truck.

I think this is where our society is wrong.. Just saying sorry redeems ones bad behavior. Really?
ANYONE FROM 8 years old on up knows defacing anything is wrong..After INTENTIONALLY DOING THIS AND SAYING SORRY DOES NOT REDEEM HIM. IT TOOK A THOUGHT, THEN TO ACT. HE HAD TO EXPEND ENERGY YO DO THIS.. SORRY? Big deal...I don't forgive,,... if it were his car going out of control because of a blow out and he did damage, then say he is sorry, can forgive that..

Third, im still paying for the insurance claim.i really don't need people sayingI installed it wrong or did not care. The truck was 70,000 and had 2000 mles on it. THE Montana was new. I have been doing this since 1992.. IM not the only one who has damaged their truck with the Anderson hitch. The 15 Rams megacabs bed is only 6'3".. this damage happened while backing into my driveway at a 90 degree turn. Cab had a small dent near the rear window and the window shattered. The entire cab on the right side needed to be repainted, except doors. The bed had to be moved back.I was not happy. I should have bought the pullrite to begin with. Dealer gave me a refund on the Anderson.
Since then we bought a 17 ram Longhorn 3500 dually, aisin, 5th wheel prep, auto level, 4:10s... NEVER BELIEVE AN ADD OR TAKE A DEALERS WORD. ALSO, ANDERSON REPLIED TO MY INCIDENT AND OFFERED TO PAY .. THEY DID NOT..

Last year my neighbor went to a B&W Patriot slider after his new Cardinal kissed his Chevy 3500 SB. The dealer that sold the AU and installed said it could not happen. Not as much damage as you had as he was watching the corner so only a big dimple at the window. A couple more inches and the window would have gone. He paid $800 for trick repair and $775 for the B&W. The AU went out on Wednesday night for the big truck to pick up and haul away. They may be fine but stating they will not kiss the SB truck is just BS.

I assume there is a point somewhere in this beyond cynicism.

For me the problem with a AUH is it voids my Lippert frame and pinbox warranty. Prior to calling Lippert I was about to go that route.

It doesn't. i did my home work. You won't get that answer willingly from Lippert or Morryde however there is ample information on the Andersen site for you to contact a legal professional specializing in this field to get the "facts".

I have 14,000# pulled by a B&W slider. I keep thinking of all that technology in ALL hitches. Then it comes down to do I feel more comfortable with 200# of US steel or 35# of recycled beer cans holding that 14,000#

I did call. They gave the information willingly. It is also documented in both Lippert and MORryde Kingpin manuals.

With regards to feeling more comfortable with a 200 lb hitch over aluminum that is what's great about opinions. The facts are a bit different however. The aluminum supports the weight and the geometric design and some engineering mathematics show that the it safely supports the specified weights of 24,000 tow and 4500 lbs tongue.
I am happy with the improved towing experience of my purchase. I am satisfied and comfortable that the product is safe and supports the weight specifications i need. I am happy that it weighs only 34 lbs and I or my wife can remove and install it easily.
I am NOT supportive of the owner's recently documented behavior. I am however a supporter of our legal system as well as having enough years on this earth to realize that we all make mistakes. Time will tell how he personally handles his troubles surrounding his actions. I am not rewarding him.

I found that I could actually go a little past 90 degrees, and at 90 I had about 4-6" clearance to back of cab, depending on other factors. Gotta' say, in response to earlier post, if someone damaged their 5er because of truck/trailer contact, it would seem they weren't being very careful and observant. If the hitch was properly installed, I can see why Andersen would absolve themselves, assuming there are no other circumstances. I don't think their advertising says anything about guaranteeing against problems not of their making.

First, Anderson has a video of a very shortbed truck doing a 90.. Second, the dealer who sold me the hitch guaranteed the two would not meet. Finally, The rams shortbed is 6 foot 3 inches. I believe the Fors has a 6 foot 6 inch shortbed. Im no idiot!. I installed the hitch correctly!

That's THEIR OPINION to make more money.. They shold pay the 1800 for my truck repairs! If they are going to say they are safe with sb trucks, then Anderson should back it with their pockets!.. LIARS!!..DO NOT USE ANDERSON HITCH ON A SHORTBED RAM!. 6'3" is NOT ENOUGH.. SPEND THE MONEY ON A SLIDER,.. i prefer the Pullrite Superglide...i have bought these used for 400.00....

dfb, the picture brings back memories. After installing the AUH, and confirming at least 4" clearance at 90 degrees, I went out to practice for my CA Non-Commercial Class A license, and immediately busted out the rear window of the new F-250. Why? Because I wasn't paying attention to the slope of the parking lot I was in. There was a slight slope down toward where I was from both directions, and that caused the overhang of the 3730 to touch the rear window of the cab. Plus, when I recreated the situation, I came to appreciate that the dynamic of the resistence of trailer tires skidding sideways changes the relationship also.
We live and learn. OBTW, I didn't mean to infer you may have not installed the hitch correctly, I was referring to a qualification Andersen would put on their possible actions.

My neighbors 2016 F350 SB matched to a 2016 Cougar 5er. Now he has the B&W Patriot slider. He said 75 to 80, no where near the 90 promised. Luckily caught before the window went. $900 repair and $750 for the new hitch.
