Step Above solid fold down entry step
I looked back 9 pages and did not see anything about this, but I was wondering what most of you think about these solid steps vs. the fold down steps we have on our 2017 3820FK? First thing I notice, is there is only about 48" on each side of our RV when it is in storage, and that is if each person on both sides of us parks directly in the middle of their spots as well. I measured the solid steps, and they are 51" from the outside of the RV to the end of the steps when the legs are pushed all the way in. So how in the heck are you supposed to get into your RV when it is in storage? Why didn't they put one fold in the middle?

Because they are waiting for you to design that centerfold style step, and become the next millionaire!

We Love ours. They are solid. We do not store our RV as it is our home. We live at a RV Resort and when we visit friends with the fold up stairs they always flex. Some our friends that are up in their years have trouble with the fold able steps but they can walk up our steps without a problem. Have you thought about maybe removing your back steps and installing fold up ones for your back door?

I added the LCI's SolidSteps to ours. DW Loves them. I have to admit, there is a reason manufacturers are putting rigid type steps on their higher end campers. They are better steps.
Our storage facility has stripes painted. I have it mentally marked where in the painted lines I have to be to be able to open the steps and stay in between the lines.

Not for us, steps belong outside the coach, we upgraded to a new set of fold up aluminium, works good for us.

Jeff, You must have wider spots at your RV storage, if you can be far enough to one side to open the solid step, and still have the room to put out all of your slides? RKassl, did you remove the solid steps and put folding ones on, and if so, was it a pain, or an easy fix?

We made them remove the solid steps before we would buy our camper. We have high quality aluminum folding steps and that way at our home bases we can use the porches we have there.

After convincing my DW with a bad back and positional vertigo at times, that the LCI Solid Steps are much safer, she reluctantly agreed - and has said that they are soooooo much better. The MORryde Step Above are similar but without the wider top landing/step of the LCI offering. I also added the Stromberg Carlson longer outside grab rail. This is documented here on golfmedik's thread: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=73040
Gaining a little more space, that may be as simple as doing a slight angle park and you will be just fine.
As far as naysayers - your choice but until you or sig other have a near or actual face plant from 36 plus inches up, probably aren't aware of the safety aspect. But as I said ........

I agree they are much stronger, and solid feeling with the adjustable feet, I just can't figure out what I am going to do when it is in storage between our trips? The storage place around where I live are filled to the max, so I don't have many choices?

We have the MORryde Step Above and really like them. Very stable! We have the same problem at our storage location though and I can't fold the steps out all the way unless we pull it out from under the cover. I can fold mine down to where they are level resting on a bar that runs between each stall and will use a small ladder to climb in if I really need to get into the camper. Haven't broke any bones yet. My DW won't do that though!!

This may be why DWs live longer.

We have the flimsy factory steps only because we haven’t changed them out yet but it is high on our priority. I am sick of having to apologize to everyone we show off the coach too for the wobbly weak steps.
No offense but I really don’t get the unrealistic arguments against the clearly superior aftermarket Moyrride steps. Dirt inside the camper? Seriously that is an issue you can’t handle? Only counter I do give some credence to is clearance inside a storage building but even a basically handy person should figure out a work around for that.
My thoughts on steps are same as for most everything. They have to perform their function while being dependable and safe. If I find something that performs the intended purpose better it gets my attention

We have a different idea of better. Also, if you ever spend a night in a truck stop you may not have room for them to deploy either...

I just think if MorRyde or the other manufacturer added one pivot point in the middle, you could lower the step down slightly bent, and then pull it out fully deployed under the RV next to you, and then still be able to climb in to your RV. They could still make it solid once it is locked straight, because it can only fold in one direction.

All you need is a Sawzall, develop a couple hinge points and a positive and locking stop for the middle while extended plus some MIG/TIG welding skills and you are done
