However, they don't say that it is unsafe in any way, just that "Ziploc® Brand Bags are not designed to withstand the extreme heat of boiling."

Having boiled omelets at several of the Montana Rallies over the past 6 or 7 years we know the bags do hold up well in boiling water. If I remember correctly the bags are boiled for up to about 5 to 8 minutes or so. Hopefully one of the boiling gurus will step forward with more exact time lines. Anyway we've managed to do well with these things for many years.
I wonder if they are talking about some other bag? Thanks for the info Grant. Later, Dennis.

The thing I did not see mentioned is Freezer bags, the regular zip lock bags I can see iffy, but as Dennis said he has been doing it for years, and so have I, after I was shown how at Flying Flags get together. I think its a leagal thing for the company.

So, we have been boiling eggs, etc. in them for HOW many years??? Well over 5.
And, just now they put a disclaimer on the web site?
(Of course, maybe it was there all along and it just took a very observant MOCer like BirdingRVer to find it?? )

I wonder if someone boiled something in the bag, took it out of the water and the bag burst and burned them like, 19 million dollars worth, hence the warning now....

Freezer bags for sure. Here is the recipe and directions I got a couple of years ago at one of our rallies:
BAGGIE BREAKFAST OMELETS
2 or 3 eggs beaten like you would do for a scramble. After you have beaten the eggs, pour them into a QUART size Ziploc freezer bag. IMPORTANT: Make sure to use a FREEZER BAG or the bag will melt when you place it in the boiling water!!!!
Add your favorite ingredients to the eggs just like you were making and omelet (sausage, bacon, peppers, cheese, mushrooms, etc.) Once all of your ingredients have been added, seal the bag and mush everything around to mix the eggs and your fixen’s. After everything is mixed up open the bag to remove as much air as possible.
Re-seal the bag and drop it into a pot of boiling water (12 minutes for 2 eggs, 15 minutes for 3). If you are making breakfast for more than one person it is a good idea to label each bag with the person’s name. An 8 Qt. pot will fit 6-8 bags at a time.
When cooking time is up, remove the bags with tongs, open them up, dump your omelet onto your plate and ENJOY!

DW's family has a camporee every July which is this weekend. For the past 7 yrs we have attended we have had baggie eggs for breakfast. Boiled the living s**t out of them along with onions, peppers, sauage, and various other items. Still going strong will be partaking Saturday morning. Me thinkest it is a CYA. If we are assigned to bring bags we use freezer Zip Locks. Don't know what other bring.
