Your Favorite < $50 Montana Tweaks?

Another thread mentioned the coming "Tweaks" in the Monty line to be announced in January. Made me think about a couple little things I've done to make the rig better. This is not a rant, but it's the little things that seemed to get missed and are really just plain silly to leave out. Plus they are usually super easy to do.

1. Stainless Screws in the shower $4.00
2. Fan in the vent "over" the shower in the 3400 bedroom $20
3. Water filter on the cold water line kitchen sink $20

Those were are the main/cheap "Why on earth didn't they just spend a couple more bucks" moments I've had.

There are lots of them, better curtains, better lampshades and better light bulbs just to name a few, but little things add up to big money when you're building 20 rigs a day. Frankly I'm pretty happy with what I got for the money and don't mind upgrading a few things for myself.

Like Dick, I would rather have the "mods" done myself. Gives me something to do over the non-camping winter months. I would say that the best less than $50 mod could be rephrased to a less than $5 mod, it was adding plastic vinyl film to the screen doors to turn them into cheap storm doors.

My local Costco offers 6 LED puck lights with a remote control for about $20.

I love 'em!

When I'm the last one to go to bed, I can manually turn on these puck lights by just pressing on the lens. I've got one on the cabinet over the kitchen island, one over the dining room table, one opposite of Monte's control panel overlooking the stairs, one in the bathroom, and two in the bedroom near the door and one on the dresser facing the closet where the washer/dryer could be.

When I'm in the bed, I hit the "off" button on the remote and all the pucks I've turned on magically turn off. If I need to get up in the middle of the night, I press the "on" button on the remote and all areas inside our Monte as sufficiently illimuniated to see what's going on, or where I want to go, but not so bright as to wake a sleeping DW.

Did I mention it came with 14 copper-top AAA batteries. I now have switched to rechargeable batteries.

I also purchased on extra LED puck light that is a motion detection light and placed it low by the stairs, it comes on automatically whenever I approach.

Did I mention how much I love 'em?

In our new 3900fb , I wanted a shelf in the cabinet under the sink. Bingo took two shelves out of his new 3850fl to install washer and dryer. He offered the shelves to me. With very little effort I was able to use one of them to make the shelf I wanted. Thanks Bingo!
I am about to install a light in the storage and mechanical area under the nose, $15.00.
I have talked with Jim Fischer about installing blue LEDs along the area just under the awning that will come on with the new blue cap lights, $50.00+ or -.
Smoke colored plexiglass in "storm door" $120.00.
Have been thinking about night lights. Like Rainer's idea.

1. Disconnecting the switch that turns all the kitchen ceiling lights on when you open the door and installing a motion detecting led light - $15
2. Installing a turbo black tank vent - $18
3. Installing a for real battery disconnect switch - $12
4. Sticking one of those plastic shopping bag holders to use them for doggie do bags on the inside of the sink door - $8
5. Putting a real soap holder on the wall of the shower so I don't have to look for it anymore - $4
6. Re-cabling the two house batteries so they both share the load and charge evenly - $18
7. Installing a whole house water filter in the basement - $45

Everything else I can think of costs more than $50 - maybe that's why I'm so broke right now!

Lights seem to be a issue. Same here. Our front closet has 2 18" LED strips. The name and phone number is on the strips. I called them, got 2 strips to install under the cabinets in the kitchen. The local Keystone dealer got the double wall switch for me.

Now it is "daylight" in the kitchen.

I like the motion detection light ideas. It's next to impossible of me to find the right switch after closing the front door to pitch black. Think i'll grab a couple pucks for the battery compartment too, or a miners light. Also on the list are some type of fishing pole holders for the basement and maybe adjustable floor vents.

We have a few other mods, like the key hook mounted just inside the front door so i can grab the keys w/o having to walk back in. Misc hooks inside the cupboards to hold hand dish towels, dog leash or the like. We tried to grab those under counter racks from Camping world that slide onto the shelf but the lip on the shelf stopped those from working. The little things really help home feel more like home.

davidaf, I installed rod holders in the basement of my 3400rl. Attached to the aluminium supports in the top of the basement. I used aluminium frame rod holders that have rubber inserts. Be sure to remove the reels from the rods. I left mine on the rods and they wear the rubber out with the rattling around during travel. The rods normally windup falling out of the holders. Not a problem when just the rod is hanging there.

I am impressed. I never imagined any RV tweak costing less than $100.00. I will say this, RV tweaks are a great deal cheaper than "large boat tweaks"! Lol

Yea, the RV stuff is much cheaper.

Hey, Larry. We finally joined the MOC. Our favorite small tweaks are the extra lock we put on the office chair that converts to a ladder and the kitchen cabinet separators. We also added braces to the folding dining chairs to make them more sturdy. Looking forward to all the MOC goings on.
