My wife saw a nice 18” dishwasher in a mountain tiny-cabin we rented up in Breckenridge, and really wanted me to get it installed in our 2019 MHC 330RL. I called several RV shops in the Springs and they were pretty blank about it all. I took some measurements and realized the island would have to be removed, exploded, expanded, and rebuilt to fit it, and shifted to a slightly different position. There were literally only a couple of inches or less of clearance in some dimensions. I realized I didn’t want to pay for all those shop hours. It ended up being much more complicated than I thought, and would have cost me several thousand in hourly rates, plus the dw purchase price, which was very high.
Pro-tip: read all the dw customer ratings before you buy. Many of the dw’s have leaks and unfixable error codes reported. I went with the Bosch for the ultra-quiet operation and an automatic leak-detector and auto-shutoff. I started off planning on a $300 dw and ended up with a price of about $1300 on sale. I don’t regret the extra cost at all—it is an incredible dw, with more room than we need inside, and so quiet we don’t need to turn up the TV, and often think it’s done while it is still running.
I put in a really nice, super-quiet Bosch top of the line 18” dishwasher a couple of months ago. I bought it on sale at Home Depot. I thought it would take a week or so, it took about 2 1/2 months.
I swapped ends of the island for the drawers, ditched the trash can holder, expanded the island cabinet right side and back to fit the dw, moved the electric and drain line, added an outlet under the sink, plumbing Ts and shutoffs, added extra noise-proofing insulation from Amazon, moved the LED light strip from just under the countertop to the toekick (now we can leave it on at night to watch TV, before it was glaring in our eyes), added the extra LED length to wrap around the inside of the cabinet, expanded the countertop (Home Depot almost perfectly matched color/pattern of the factory original) for more countertop work space and to cover the bigger cabinet to fit the dw, replaced the sink with a bigger fancy one with some doo-dads like a drain tray and roll-up rack, replaced the fake shiplap panels and painted the cabinet a dark green-gray that goes well with the rest of the cabinets.
Now you see why it took me 2 1/2 months…part of the time was waiting for the dw shipping and the countertop measurement, creation and install. Oh, and I developed a double hernia while trying to unscrew the island from the floor, so I also had some surgery and healing time in there…and yes, I am still married to my wife of 48 years!!
