When to Replace Trailer Springs and Lift Options

How do you tell if your springs need to be replaced?
Who has lifted their camper using blocks between the axle and spring versus extending the shackles?

Last year about this time, I was following several threads from folks having trouble with springs and hangers. Also saw several youtubes of folks having springs problems and patching things up enough to limp to the next town. I crawled under my rig and started looking…hangers were solid but my springs looked flat (see pics)…so i got concerned enough to start figuring out what i needed to do to replace them…I did not like any of my choices for getting a shop to install new springs and i have never done it and dont have the jacks or tools. I ended up getting Roadmaster Comfort Ride installed at the S&B April 2026.

Montana lift possible?

Good evening, I have a question about lifting the 5th wheel. With my GMC 3500 the Montana rides nose high. I am sure someone has raised there RV on the axles. Looking for ideas, pros and cons, any handling issues ect. I appreciate all the help everyone has giving on here. Thank you.

Several members have installed spacer block between the springs and the axles to raise the height of the RV. Bob Rohrman (RIP) was one and his Posts are here. A Search should find them.

I have installed the www.trailerblocks.com years ago.
Never a problem with them. The Trailer sits relatively level on my taller truck.
On the Springs, I found my rear flat with a slight bend, where the second leaf starts,
So I replaced them recently, I used a place in Southern California (Dever Suspension) and had them add a full additional leaf to them that extends all the way to the eye bolt (not a few inches short). My last spring fail in Alaska happened at that same spot. My rig gets a great amount of use and some short rough graded dirt roads. I did the change out my self...
