Under inflation issues

My Goodyear Endurance served me well but only for about 8000 miles. Leaving for Montana from FL and they have 3/32 remaining and need to replace I have 235/80R16s for our High Country HM318RE. Considering the Sailun S637 but they are rated for 110 psi and my wheels are rated for 80. I’ve seen comments about inflating the Sailuns to 80 but all I’ve read highlights that under inflation is a major cause of tire failure. I’ve run the Goodyear’s at 75 and never had an issue. Seems to me that inflating the tires to 80 when rated for 110 would be major under inflation. Is that a valid concern and would I be buying myself problems?

This chart will give you the load capabilities for various pressures for both the 80 series and the 85 series tires. You will still have the benefit of the stronger tire.

Since your rig is a 2015 it may have 110 PSI wheels. Have you crawled under it to see what they are marked?

His 2015 High Country probably still had the 80 psi wheels on it. It's only been recently that Keystone started installing the F range tires on wheels that were only rated for 95 psi.

Myself, I do not know how a tire rated for 110 psi would function on a rim rated at 80 and the tire pressure was set to 80. But I agree, that much of a difference in tire pressure "seems" like it would affect the overall performance of the tire and cause an under inflation uneven tread and side-wall wear problem after a period of time.

Give them a call, see what they say. Report back what you find out and what your final decision is on the tires.

Thanks for the input. My rims are marked as 80. The chart showing load capacity at various inflation was very helpful. I had not considered that aspect and also appreciate the contact info for Sailun. I had not been able to find a tel number for them. With some of the recent Sailun failure posts I am reconsidering as I don’t want to end up with a Vietnamese bomb. May end up settling for another set of Goodyear Endurance. Their initial 11/32 tread doesn’t lend itself to Long mileage life but Goodyear makes a good tire to replace the Marathons. They’ve been trouble free for me and with the stock factory rims I have maintain air pressure well

Tread life with the GY Endurance has been the major complaint, otherwise, they get good reviews. WRT using 80psi on a G-rated tire, you should follow the mfgrs. load table. Get your rig weighed and go from there.

Running those tires at 80 PSI will only affect the carrying capacity of the tires and not affect their safety.

Called Sailun and the rep felt it would yield no advantages to go with their tires with the existing 80psi rims. I do get the additional plys so that’s a plus but I still have concerns about under inflation. Going to go w the Goodyear Endurance and will also add TMPS system for a bit of additional insurance. I too was concerned about the rumour of ALL the Sailun failures, but a closer examination shows one poster posted 3 times and another twice. A third was a summary of the first two. Two failures amongst the 10's of thousands of Sailuns out there isn't a reason to be worried. My tire shop has one customer with 3,000 units all on Sailun and he had more Vietnamese Sailuns just come in for him again.

Just return home with one blow out and one tire with a split in it they are the Sailun tires with about 10,000 miles on them made in 2019.I am looking for tires.one thing having a hard time finding 14 and 16 ply trailer all steel tires made in the USA.Some you thing are made here after checking are not.

Go with goodyear
The 614 are pricy
But now on my third set due to age
With no regrets-or trip interruptions
And they are made here/someone employed in the US.

I can only find Goodyear in E load ratings, mine our F and I would like to go with G for additional reserve capacity.

The Goodyear Endurance tire in size 255 16 is rated for slightly over 4,000 lbs at 80 psi, which is almost the same as G rated tires capacity at 110 psi.
