Today I stopped at a RV center to ask about having my Monty wheels aligned. He started giving me numbers of first doing a under carriage survey, about $100. Then to check the alignment for another $100, then doing the alignment IF needed, another $500 to do the alignment. Now he also added addition cost if any parts were needed? So by the time I get it done I am looking at about $1,000? Is he giving me an accurate estimate or is he inflating the bill?? All I heard was ca-ching ca-ching the whole conversation.[?][?]

Sounds like a rip-off to me. Had a friend get a laser alignment in Billing, Montana for far less then that (if I remember correctly it was around $180.00). I had my alignment checked by Tiara RV in Elkhart, Indiana and there was no charge because my alignment was good.

I stopped at a shop in Harrisburg, PA and they check my alignment, found it was within specks and pulled me off.
The bill was $000.00. I would definitely find a different shop. Places that do big trucks should be able to do your trailer.
Good luck and safe travels.

I'm voting rip off. We had our old one aligned at a truck & trailer place for $250 - and that included the labor for replacing two tires for us.

That was the first place I checked , being I was there buying a some parts I needed. I thought the guy was blowing a lot of blue smoke and I was right. To the trailer shops I go this week. In traveling I have heard some horror stories of shops taking advantage of people, especially the elderly. They have this idea that "I am a specialist", and they are the only place in town. My Karma says, that when I am at a CG and see someone having some problem, I always go over and ask if I can help. Sometimes, it just a simple fix.

RIP OFF FOR SURE...............find a shop that does truck spring work and alignments.

Tiara in Elkhart checked alignment???? What with?? I have been there, what a joke for a service department.

My first question would be, what is going on that you would think you might need the alignment checked on your RV.

The rate quoted is completely out of line, and I would steer well clear of that RV center.

We had ours done at a truck shop in Sioux city. Cost about 150 bucks. Did a good job because I'm not wearing out tires all the time.

At that price for a check, you could add a little more and have the Mor/ryde IS installed and aligned. If you were in the Elkhart area you could check with Mor/ryde as to what they would charge. I know for a fact that they have the Laser Alignment setup.

As Michelle said, before I spent that much with a crook, I'd put a new suspension on with someone you could trust. In short, if you have a tire wear problem go to a large truck shop as mentioned by several members.

If there is nothing wrong and tire wear is even and good, and rig is level, I would not worry about it. I bought our first trailer in 1970, and have never had a trailer alignment done.

Then you've never driven in Michigan after a thaw. Come on up - we'll have a pot hole with your name on it, big enough to lose your trailer! :D [:0]
